Nothing is worse than a rock band singing about being a rock band.

    No, wait. Yes there is!

A rock band singing about WANTING TO BE a rock band.

"Still Rock and Roll To Me", by Billy Joel. A great pop songwriter's detour into self delusion.

Oops. Dee Murray is Elton John's guitarist.

I've done my best to forget everything I can about Twisted Sister.

Snider isn't really just twisted sister anymore. He's in all those crappy VH1 programs, plus he tried to be the spokesman for metal during the PMRC crap.

Does the word "Rock" have to appear in the title? If not, then a no-doubter is "We Built This City" by Starship. It's a sell-out song about not selling out.

Considering how much I absolutely loved the Jefferson Airplane, to have Starship come up with this complete piece of tripe, well, it hurt me no end. It's like finding your girlfriend fucking seventeen year olds at McDonals...during her shift as a fry cook...while all the time eating a Big Mac.

The decade began OK, with the maturation of punk and the birth of New Wave, but yes, it petered out. The 1980s had terrible work from stalwarts like Neil Young. There were a few bright spots later in the decade, like World Party and U2, but for the most part, the best thing about the later '80s was it set the stage for grunge.

This is the song that sprang straight to mind when I saw the thread title.

Falco's Rock Me Amadues is up there high in the ranks of crapdom as well.

Thank God for that song though, or else there would be no "Planet of the Apes:The Musical" segment on the Simpsons.

Well, oddly enough, I like mainstream 70s and 90s music, while less well-known 80s and 00s bands. I find hair metal of the 80s to have practically no appeal and I feel the same way about the best selling bands of today.

I love "We Built This City."

The worst rock song about rock? I've got one. It's an interesting song, and I actually enjoy listening to it because it's so... bizarre. But still, it's terrible.

"I Do The Rock" by Tim Curry (1979).
