That's an attitude I wish the next pope would share! Unfortunately, I think it will take some time before we get there.
So is there an actual group of Catholics who have not already left for other reasons that you expect to walk if an African is at their head? Also is it African specifically or any man who self identifies and/or is perceived by others as other then European?
Plenty. If they choose an African, I'll buy popcorn and read all comments of those pissed off "good Catholic" Poles on all available Polish news portals. Sure it could be a minority from the whole group, but it would be a very vocal minority. Watching their heads steam and smoke would be a lot of fun
It would be nice to see a non-caucasian pope but I don't think the Vatican is ready for much change yet. I do hope we will see a move towards a less rigid stance on the condom issue when the new pope is elected.
Would send a hell of a message to all those Catholics in Africa who got HIV because of the ridiculous doctrine when the new pope suddenly is saying "Yeah, maybe you should have used condoms all along. We were not quite correct on that issue. (Next time don't listen to us!)"
So Eastern Europe, I guess many might turn Orthodox. What I am seeing in America are young Catholic Priest who are not the big brother of the hero protagonist white ethnic cop like they are on the cop show procedurals. So an entire generation of Catholics, like the ones who elected President Obama, have had a Priest from Africa, Latin America or the Philippines who immigrated under an R (religious) or H (work) visa.
I highly doubt that. Catholicism is too deeply ingrained into Polish culture to be eradicated by a "wrong" pope. They'd rather go lamenting that he's not another "beloved John Paul II", but abandoning their faith? No, it wouldn't happen.
Not that I've noticed. But Polish Wikipedia removed all controversies from his profile. They were back later, after a lot of protests about the attempts to whitewash the new pope's past, but in much softer tone. All this is just a reminder of one of many reasons why I emigrated and won't return
I can't imagine that happening on the American Wiki for long. I'd be concerned here about vandalism on the article from stupid and immature people. But legitimate information has a right to be there whether favorable or not.
