I started reading Cold Equations Pt1 and I see that Tamala Harstad's back, the woman who had transferred off Enterprise and put Geordi in a bad mood. That was in 2383 now we're up to 2384, DRGiii redeuced his captain rank to commander, and we're delving back into Harstad. I freely admit that IFM read like a peice of fan ficion, what with Kang's granddaughter, Nog at Tactical (who's now designing the new DS9) not to mention Barclay beaming across the galaxy. I feel bad for the author in a time of such cross-novel continuity that his work is being undone and ignored. At least they acknowledged Scotty's "death."
I couldn't really picture Geordi as being a captain. It was okay for Scotty, but that was only in a few of the films.
I really liked Indistinguishable From Magic, and was saddened to see Geordi's progress undone so pointlessly. Things like this are no good for Treklit. What else are they gonna roll back?
One wonders if David Mack didn't get to read IFM. I he might have been already working on Cold Equasions at the time....
So Geordi's still at commander? I haven't read POM yet, but I see on the cover the photoshop artist left Geordi's rank at Lieutenant-Commander from Star Trek Insurrection.
I thought it was a great scifi story mags...and certainly the Scotty story needed to be concluded at some point. I dont know what it is, but people just dont stay dead in this universe! I'm getting to the halfway point of The Eternal Tide, and I can already see the writing on the wall with respect to a certain character. Kudos to you for taking the gig, and I hope you jump at it again if given the chance. They cant reverse ALL your work...
"Can't reverse all..." but maybe with your next book there'll be some better editing done, since everytime that I think of Magic or look at it I still get the memory of reading something that felt like it was half there --- wherever "there" was.
My guess would be Spoiler: books in Question? that he means Trip's "resurrection" in the Enterprise post-finale books (although here recent is stretching it a bit), Janeway in The Eternal Tide and apparently the sort of resurrection of Data in POM. ETA: Seeing Hartzilla's post after mine, I guess I misunderstood the question
Scotty when Nomad killed him, McCoy when he was killed on the planet in Shore Leave, and Spock and his two film death and resurrection. Except for I believe those three incidents everyone else who kicked the bucket is still dead (at least in canon).
