Wanted to show off my Delta Recruits.

Jupiter Jones, my fed character, at level 45 now bravely besting her enemies in the T1 constitution all the way. :)

Klaraxia, my new KDF Talaxian, at level 5. Toying with the idea to make her a kick-ass leatherclad ground combat specialist character.

So, since I finally bought all of the playable species I didn't already own (had enough zen saved up that it made sense to get them during the sale), I'm finally ready to make a Caitian. Science or Engineer? I already made a Fed Tac Andorian as a Delta Recruit. If I'm gonna double up on classes, I at least want to make it as interesting as possible.

On the KDF side, I guess I'll just go with Tac for the Ferasan if I get around to it. Unless one of the others is better for the species?

Wish there were more Romulan species options (Suliban, perhaps?), but I guess I'll make a Fed-Reman Science Officer. I had a level 30-ish Fed-Rom Sci, but I deleted her to make room; could just re-roll her, but I'm not quite feeling it.

Delta recruit Fed certainly helped my solo fleet efforts, am just starting another Delta Romulan today and forgot how much fun their initial missions are compared to Fed/Lumpyhead.

My Fed Delta actually made it to the Delta Rising content (anyone else find it funny they're called Delta Recruits but all the content and even the timey-wimeyness ends PRIOR to them entering the Delta Quadrant?)... the first missions there are fun (less so once you start getting the patrols) but... seriously... the Kazon? Why are these fuckers still considered a threat? The Federation is more than 30 years down the road in ship tech and able to go toe-to-toe with the Borg, and Maje Backwater is still considered an issue? I mean, OK, if you made the case that Cullah's kid had unified the clans and aggressively pursued his mother's policy of trying to steal advanced tech whenever they could, fine... but the missions still show the Kazon as divided as ever.

That's awesome! What gear are you using to have your connie compete? Not that leveling is all that difficult, I've dabbled with endgame connie builds in the past.

I'm leveling a Vulcan science officer as a delta recruit kind of a Spock/Leonard Nimoy tribute character, modeled after my Vulcan first officer on my main.

here, take a look. Right now, I need to upgrade badly to mk XI.
The last couple of missions were actually pretty difficult and i died a few times when I got sloppy flying into bigger mobs and letting a mirror prometheus sneak up on me and alphastriking me from off screen.
Since i made Admiral, the NPCs actually use pretty devastating special abilities which you never feel with a T5 ship, but the difference in effectivenes to even captain level mobs is pretty apparent in a low level ship.

Anyone know of a 3D printing service out there offering STO ships? I'm really loving the Rommie ships, especially the Ar'Kif, and would like to buy models.

    Ok, bit confused about ZEN.....

I would normally never do this, but I'm considering actually paying for a ship, with money. Now, some ships cost 2500 ZEN.... how much is that in dollars? I mean, I see the link to buy ZEN, but when I'm at the page, all it says is how many dollars you can pay, not how much ZEN you get for it.... Bit confusing....

You want to spend maybe 30 bucks. You will have left over zen if you go for a 2500 zen ship, but i don't think there is an exact 2500 zen buy option.
or you spend 20 bucks and do the rest with dilithium conversion. Though buying zen with dilithium is expensive right now.

30 bucks? For a ship? Dude...... Not worth it for me. I mean, I like the game, but I'm not that serious about it.

I was estimating. I am thinking in Euro and don't know the current conversion rate. But it is in that ballpark.

Plus, I don't think of paying that much for a ship.
I think of it as paying for entertainment in support of the game.
Like a visit at the movies or a one time sub fee with a perk.

The dollar is pretty strong these days, it's a tad over 28 euros.

And I see what you mean, but still, personally I can't justify spending money on something I don't actually own. I have the same issue with buying e-books.

$30 is nothing, you should see what Star Citizen charges for some of its ships can range up to hundreds of dollars for the high end ones, or even lock box ships in STO can cost hundreds to get randomly from a box, or you can go the smart route and get it off the exchange. I view the cost of ships in lieu of a sub fee just don't play WoW for a couple of months and your budget is covered.

You could even grind for dilithium crystals and then convert them to zen to get your cash shop items and essentially get ships for "free" but it takes time and diverts dilithium from gear needed for endgame content.

The game is not funded off of happiness it's this or buy a box and sub, which at this point in the mmo scene the only game worth doing that with is WoW.

It pretty much comes out to dollar for dollar every 100 ZEN. So if you pay $25, you get 2500 ZEN. Ships end up costing between $18 and $30.

This exactly. It's supporting the game, and you get a perk (being able to access a new thing that you don't need, but might be fun to use) . I like STO, and want it to be around for a while. So every now and then I plunk down some cash.

Plus doom saying aside it does fit with Cryptic's ship pricing.

Keep in mind that as far as I'm aware, the ships are account wide, so any of your characters can use them. That's been the case with mine.

only bought a ship with money once, and soured on the experience. It almost immediately became useless, and I never use it. I play with what I can get in-game now, not pulling out my card again...

A few days ago I paid EUR9.99 and got 1100 ZEN for it exactly.

You get a bonus on your zen, if you buy a bigger sum.

If you are patient, you can wait for a zen sale to get an additional bonus and then wait for the next ship sale to double dip. ;)

That is how I think. Brought four ships since I first started. Two aren't active at the moment, but I can use them when some of my newer characters get to level 50. I generally buy a new ship (or something else) every few months.
