The Poisoned Chalice (November) and Peaceable Kingdoms (December) don't have descriptions yet, so probably after we get those.

Love the fact that Janeway isn't simply put in command of the fleet just like that. Was afraid of something like that, but sounds like a great read!

Is this something created for the novel, or is it a reference to an episode? I don't remember any episodes leaving anything open-ended regarding a distress signal but I'm not sure if that's faulty memory or not.

    I had the same thought.

It sounds great. Not a case of "putting all the toys back in the box" at all!

Reminds me of the plot thread that was used in the 3rd story (5th book) of the A Time To... where Starfleet sent the Enterprise-E after the ancient distress call that the NX-01 had picked up 200 years earlier.

Hey, I have a problem. The fast forward button isn't working. I keep pointing it at myself and pressing the button nothing happens. I tried pointing it at the calendar and pressing the button and STILL nothing happens. I need someone to help me out here. I mean you don't really expect me to actually go through the months between now and this book coming out, one day at a time do you? I'll go mad. Mad I say. MAAAAAAD! Oops. Too late.

Well, since it seems to be shortly after The Eternal Tide, that would put it in late 2381, and 9 years earlier would be late second season. Does that narrow it down?

Taking a look at the episode list, the second half of season 2 consists of Alliances to Basics. Since there isn't anything related to unresolved distress signals that I can remember in those episodes, I'll assume this is something created for the novel. Maybe it'll feature a flashback?

First of all...what have I told you guys, time and again, about me and MATH?

Yes, the distress call originated in an episode from season 2 but if you go exactly 9 years back from where TET ends, you'll be frustrated. The episode in question aired early in season 2, but the "distress call" part won't be obvious to you...until you read Protectors, that is.

By all means, enjoy yourselves until then.

And for any of you who just can't wait, and happen to live in the Baltimore/DC area, I'll be at Shoreleave this weekend. On Sunday at 12:00, I'll be doing a Voyager panel (it's the only one, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it) and I plan to read an excerpt from Protectors at that panel.

    Just sayin'....

    Best,

Aww...we love you so much around here. Not only are you one of the best Trek authors around you're the most honest and humble. I like an author who admits she isn't good at math. Makes me feel better about myself. :)
