I remember reading somewhere that the original bridge design was supposed to have the turbolift in the rear so that it would line up with the external shaft but was changed for filming reasons. When they filmed the Captain in the chair at an angle, they wanted the turbolift doors in the background in order to see people using the lift. Not sure if there's any truth to that or not it makes sense.

That's always the explanation that's made sense to me, yeah.

It looks to me as if, in WNMHGB, the helm station in some shots is rotated to halfway between the turbo and communications, rather than lined up with communications.

I finally watched it yesterday. I enjoyed watching it in one lump. Needless to say, I liked the whole production and feel. Decent acting, sfx, costumes and so forth kept me in the show for it's duration. I am glad they were finally able to finish it and release it after all this time. To me it was worth the wait.

Honest Question: Did you do all the SFX on Act 4 by yourself?

No. The spaceship models were built and animated by Dennis and also NEO f/x, and many of those elements were done years ago. Kenneth Thompson did the CGI lizard (and was flying blind because I couldn't tell him what it was for). Some of the base weirdspace elements were pre-existing, but largely I reverse engineered those and built entirely new elements to replace/enhance them, and then created a bunch of new elements using different techniques, from slit scanned artwork to multi-layered composite images. The lightning you see in weirdspace in Act 4 isn't animated, it's actually photographed off one of those electric disks as seen in every bloody Borg alcove.

    There's also a web comic.

That short web film was actually pretty funny, and IIRC one of the first to present Star Trek characters in this format (Phase 2, Farragut and Excalibur have also all released shorts of their own).

It would be nice if someone convinced the people involved that even if full-length episodes are too labour intensive, a rapid succession of shorts could be the answer...well, maybe not an answer to any question, but since I seem to be one of many people who would like a return to action with these appealing characters, we'll take anything we'll get...

And if anyone is concerned by the passage of time because it HAS been a decade since the last filming...I look at Chekov who still kicks ass almost 50 years after the end of season 3...

Thanks for throwing that out there. The Jimm and Josh were incredibly gracious in allowing our little love letter to their characters.

Pity the comic is not in a .pdf form so I can download and read at my leisure.

Wow. I hope this isn't damning with faint praise, but while there are other fan films with better acting and more polished cinematography, this is the only one I know of with nearly 0% fanservice. Exeter sits down and tells its own story! And it's terrific. The last act is riveting. I wish the "going concerns" (Continues! Phase II!) would take a page from Exeter's book. No classic guest stars. I guess the Tholians is kind of a callback, but then so is an episode with the Klingons.

It's been over ten years and I only just realized that the Exeter theme music is Mudd's Women. D'oh!

Nice job, gang. I can't believe it but it was actually worth the wait.
