Wow a Facebook ad actually proved useful. You can now sign-up for Star Trek: Infinite Space, choosing a character name and reserving a slot for the beta as well as obtaining some kind of special item. I'm Aloysius Shinth (I wanted Captain Spock, but you know, that was taken). It will be interesting to see if this ends up being fun stuff or not.
I suspect some of the taken names might be reserved for NPCs - can't really have people running around with the same names as characters we'd like to meet, right?
Yeah, looks kind of like Star Fleet Command, but with more role-playing, which is fine with me. I wouldn't mind more away-team stuff, but I'm not getting the sense that's part of the deal. It could always change, I suppose!
agreed, STO's problem is it doesn't look anything like star trek, they've been allowed to take far too many liberties with the whole design, everything from the look of the aliens right through to ship design. Something tells me it's not 'trekkies' that are making it. I look at some of their ship designs and just cringe tbh.
Hmm, now it looks like the beta has been cancelled and this game may not happen after all. That's a shame, I was hopeful this game might be worthwhile.
Cancellation for ST: Infinite Space? I'm not surprised. Ever since Legacy, I've never held my breath for any new Trek game (announced or not). STO has distorted and changed the Trek universe too much for my tastes IMO (just doesn't give off that right kind of Trek vibe). I would have more hope for fan-made projects, but they more often than not are simply vaporware.
