I think so. As with most done of this sort, pre-cooking the filling is a given so as not to hand most of the cooking to the fryer and risk burning the pastry. I'll have to ask mother about more details when I get back home.

Marinated chicken enchiladas with a salsa verde topping. Since it was the weekend, I marinated it in this concoction of chiles, vinegar, garlic, etc. for several hours.

Made the salsa verde from scratch, but it was a bitch to find tomatillos. Made fresh guacamole as well.

Steak and twice-baked potatoes (with sour cream, chicken broth and garlic baked in on the second go-round) for me.

We had pork chops (from a local pork producer), sweet corn (from a local vegetable grower), and a salad made with cabbage (from another local grower).

I work for a farm organization, so I like to support the folks who help pay my salary. Besides...it was all sooooooooo goooooood. May as well enjoy all this wonderful stuff while it's still in season.

Edit: Although pork, of course, is always in season!

Bon appétit, as they probably don't say in India. :)

Me, once again on the move and with a delayed train, so took the opportunity to try another pasty from the West Cornwall Pasty shop at St. Pancras. Chicken Balti, this time - although I'm not sure if it's true Balti. Still, not too bad. :bolian:

They're lovely. :) I would have posted photo for you to judge, but I'm too busy eating. ;)

No where near as greasy as I feared. Precooked potato and pea balance is about right. I put lots of spices in but I can barely taste them. I think a lot of them found their way out in the oil. Pastry is a slightly grainy, and not as crisp as factory made ones, but is generally okay. Shape is a bit off as I wasn't sure how to make pyramids, but that doesn't really matter. Suffice to say I'm having another :)

Last night I had London broil with Brussels sprouts.

In Canada, "London broil" is flank steak rolled with ground pork. As Wikipedia says: "The origin of the name is obscure; the food is unknown in London, England."

It sure is tasty, though.

I'm impressed! I've never attempted them myself.

We had meatloaf, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and garlic mashed potatoes tonight. It was my first time making meatloaf, and I've been nervous about cooking some American foods since my mother-in-law is an amazing cook. But my husband loved dinner! :)
