Well the overnight figures are in

1.46m a 6.3% share. Making it the second most watched show ever on Dave, second only to RD: BTE.

Good news. Its nice to have the boys back.

I enjoyed it as well. Nothing life changing mind you, but a nice bit of fun. Of course any show that DOESN'T make me feel stupider for having watched it is a success. :)

Of course that doesn't include the timeshift viewers, which pushes it up to around 1.53m and any that watched it on either the 23:20 or 00:20 repat and DVR viewers. So the number can only go up.

In comparrisson ITV pulled in around a 2.6m for the 21:00 slot.

Though those are only the oovernights. But to get within a million or so of one of the major TV stations should be considered good.

Though the question is can it maintain that level of viewership.

Hopefully the strong opening episode and good word of mouth will keep those ratings.

Is it just me that was kind of dissapointed? I mean it had some really funny bits, but it kind of felt like I was watching craig charles try to be lister. Instead of just watching lister in the old ones.

Maybe I expected too much, or maybe it's because they're new to working with eachother again infront of the audience. Maybe it'll get better with the other episodes. Still watched it 3 times though!

Also, am I the only one who thought the "bridge" set just looked like Starbug's cockpit? That was kind of confusing. When I saw the promo pic of it I thought it was Starbug. I want the drive room back! And Holly :(

    Hey ho, pip and dandy.

I understood the metaphor, just not the etymology, which is sometimes more important, why things mean what they do more so than what they mean.

Climb to the top of the ancient building that's kinda like a pyramid thematically but structurally not.

    Also.

    The word zigeral didn't exist.

New season of merlin starting tomorrow morning! (It's 4 am and I'm sleepy.)

That's because the word was "Zigguart". Climb the ziggeraut of command as quickly as possible to the top.

I loved the last episode. The moose bit and teh Touch T stuff, all great Dwarf moments The preview for the enxt episode looked good too.

Yeah the preview made me stop and wonder whether we'd get a Holly reference. Or even an appearance? *firmly in dreamland*

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Took a while to get going, and it was by no means classic, but it was such a brilliant moment for me. Back to Earth was a bit of novelty in having them all back together again, but it just seemed off. No audience, too much location shooting, and an iffy script just make it hard to rewatch.

This felt like much more familiar territory though, and was a welcome blast from the past. I hope the rest of the series keeps up the quality set here.

Trojan was awesome! It felt just like a classic Red Dwarf episode, series 3 or 4. Absolutely took me back! I'd be very happy with a season of this!

This was right up there. Better than BTE and better than the last full series. Fits right in with series 3 or 4. Perhaps not a very top episode but it would be a good solid episode from either of those series.

    I'm experiencing relief and anticipation!

Slightly ropey - almost nervous - first 5-10 minutes, but a strong second half. The cast were clearly getting back into their stride, the jokes were decent and the plot sufficient for the jokes. Only one or two really deep chuckles, but enough to be optimistic about next week. It still needs some sharper jokes (aka the Rob Grant effect), but overall, there's enough about this ep to give me hope.

If it wasn't RD, I don't think I'd watch regularly but as it's RD, I know this cast's chemistry can lead to great humour, so I'll definitely continue to watch the series. I think this return has some real potential to return the show to greatness. This ep was probably about equal to the worst eps of S1-6 (Meltdown, probably) and the very best eps of S7/8 (maybe Cassandra, or the Rimmer S7 episodes). And miles better than BTE.

BTW, it's really annoying to have to register for Dave's website to use their VOD service. I did it, because I really like RD and missed the live broadcast, but most people wouldn't bother. Forcing registrations limits the potential VOD audience.

Think that's a temporary thing, they're introducing a full scale VOD site for Really, Dave and Yesterday later in the year, with apps for smart TVs and consoles I believe.
