He's finished ruining Star Trek so he can now move on to Star Wars and make the prequels look like masterpieces.

Please, if you think that any of Abrams films have reached the bullshit level that the prequels established, I think you need to watch more movies. This movie will be AT WORST far better then the prequels.

So, the Jedi will now wield Lensflaresabers? I'm guessing that's any Star Trek 3 buggered

Well see, still not compeletly convinced it's true.

“Look, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time,” J.J. gushed. He added, “I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more then anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!”

He couldn't drag Trek lower than The Final Frontier and Insurrection, both nearly killing the franchise.

I hope it's true. It would be nice to have some fun, dynamic characters in a SW movie again.

Hell, Abram's movie was arguably better than Generations, Nemesis, TMP, and The Search For Spock as well, not to mention much of Voyager and Enterprise.

He did a good job with Mission: Impossible, too, so I bet he could make a fun STAR WARS movie, assuming this isn't just another crazy internet rumor.

(Yeah, I know. So much for "backing away.")

(Sigh. So much for backing away.)

    What? That little slut! :rommie:

Setting the bar that low, he should be able to find time to ruin Star Trek some more at the same time.

Just for clarification, I wasn't commenting on the quality of Star Trek 2009 just the fact that other Trek projects have come far closer to "ruining" the franchise. :techman:

Even if JJ has moved on to a better-paying customer who drives a fancier car and pours a better brand of champagne, I'm sure Star Trek will continue to be lucrative enough that Paramount will continue the movie franchise with a different director.

Both Star Trek and Star Wars have survived the worst that can be thrown at them (Star Wars in particular, yeesh) so there's no need to fret about either. They're touch sumbitches.

A ton of other sites are reporting it now, but it all seems to be coming from the same initial report, so I'm still not confident about this...

I'm optimistic, I enjoyed the 2009 reboot for the energy it brought back to the franchise, but it does seem clear he would be more suited to Star Wars.

I just hope the third Star Trek movie doesn't suffer from the X-Men syndrome with a different director.

Star Trek has survived many different directors. Frankly, it's amazing that Star Trek still exists at all. I'm sure everything will work itself out. At least now Hollywood has an idea of what a new, successful Trek franchise can look like.
