noob question . . . anyone else really hate the gorn minefield fleet action?
nobody seems to realize that you don't have to kill ALL the frigates or cruisers . . . by the time I was ready to take on the dreadnought at the end I was all by myself :(

I usually skip most of the Fleet Action stuff. Just SO long and tedious, and for little to no reward. If I even consider the million-man Romulan Temple one more time, gonna puke. If it's that slammed with Romulans, stop sneaking in and just nuke it from orbit...

The Vesta has cannon hardpoints in the book, so they'll probably carry that over. Good news for you, with the Odyssey not having them, ja?

(I'm guessing it will be a science/escort hybrid).

with a coordinated team or two, they can actually be done in a reasonable amount of time.. shouldnt take longer then an STF...

But it's neither fun nor rewarding, so why would you bother? Just an excercise in futility. At least mindlessly grinding STFs has a TINY chance of a reward.

It's likely that the Vesta will be made a science ship, since it's about time they got another VA one, so it probably won't have those cannons. Cruisers BTW can mount single cannons on their ships.

Well.. the best one on the map usually gets a purple item appropriate level and a neat trophy for display on your ship. I want to have them all at one point.

So can science ships, single cannons are not restricted. They have the same arc and DPS as dual beams I think, but a higher proc chance.

Lol, well I've never tried to mount them before on a science ship.

Single cannons have a 180 degree arc, the DPS on standard MK XII ones is 212. Dual beam banks on the other hand have an arc of 90 degrees, and standard MK XII DPS is listed at 229. This depends on if you can maintain the forward firing arc of the cannons though.

"Soon" is way too optimistic a term. Most ships don't show up in a playable form until months after the art is done.

That bug was in multiple F2P test builds. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that it still isn't fixed.

You'll notice that he said ships and seeing as I only know of one other ship he finished designing I think we're getting the Planck as well.

I'm kind of hoping the Vesta is an escort and we get the Planck as a science ship (I mean that was what it seemed to be in the Voyager relaunch relaunch)

I am seriously thinking of making a version of my main alt to fly a Vesta an endgame just so I can have an STOverse version and a Destinyverse version of him.

Yeah, somewhere on the forum I posted my experience with some Tac officers just shooting the ships (outside the target area). I almost completed the mission solo but got so fatigued that I left.

The only fleet action that I try without friends or fleetmates is Starbase 24 and that can be frustrating if the other players don't target the warships.

I would like to do an event series. To this day, there are 2 missions I have never completed:

Crystallien Catastrophe and The Fluidic Space Gekli Herding one...

Let alone gotten the trophy for one of the first 3 places (or is it only first place?).

But then I think it would be a good idea to do all of the fleet actions with premade teams in private instance.

they are meant for up to 20 players but can be beaten in a reasonable ammount of time with 5 decent ships/captains. All of them

There's several I haven't done, even on my VA, so I'd be up fore some Fleet Events. Maybe two or three a week over the course of a couple weeks, starting with the lowest and working our way up?

Although I've heard CE is still bugged. Is this true?

    nah, couldn't see that...

Vesta class needs to be a science ship, it's what it was designed for... it's science / experimental class... for long term research missions and such...

can't see it as an escort, possibly cruiser like the Sovereign class, but it's main home should be science class

CE is special. It's an event now like the Deferi Invasion.

Howeer beating is is a matter of having high DPS to overcome the CE's healing and controlling the fragments.
there is a very elegant kiting method that should be easier with teh new threatcontrol abilities.
Or the pure AoE DPS method, which requires to concentrate the fragments in a tight spot between you and the CE. With scatter volley spam for example you could destroy everything the CE can throw at you and damage it at the same time.

Isn't the Vesta only slightly smaller than the Sovereign-class? That'd probably eliminate it from being used as an escort.

Plus Cryptic will usually ignore the intended role of the vessel anyway. Hence the Nebula-class as a science ship in-game.

Sweet, game just crashed (server disconnect) while I was finishing missions in Deferi. On the plus side, the loader tells me that they are taking the website down, and the gameplay won't be affected!

Game is fun enough, but they really need to get their act together technically. Servers were also slammed when I logged in earlier, had queues to get in, etc. They had better put more resources online before the FEs start back up next weekend, or they are going to lose a lot of new F2P players that are turned off by this...

I don't know, I always figured the Nebula class for a science vessel, like an up-to-date Miranda class.

Anyhoo, has anyone seen the servers today?! They're packed! I was in a LONG queue before I ever got in to play, and even then I was only in 15 minutes before I got bumped. The STO forums just went down due to all of the activity, too! It's a mixed blessing, but yay, STO is busy! :D

The thing is the Nebula-class generally did the same type of missions that we saw the Enterprise-D do in the series. If we're going by what we saw, then why can't we have a Galaxy-class as a science vessel too.
