It took me the whole episode before I realized that the mousy assistant was played by same actress who plays the werewolf's sister on BEING HUMAN. I knew I'd seen her somewhere before . . .

Fun to see Castle and Beckett discussing "shippers" and such.

But, of course, the best bit came at the very beginning:

"Who would want to kill a writer?"

    "Oh, so many reasons . . . ."

The assistant is the girl from Napoleon Dynamite, Veronica Mars and Big Love.

Aragorn's right, the assistant on Castle was played by Tina Majorino.

The sister on BH is palyed by Alison Louder.

    Oops! Got it wrong.

I guess I must have recognized her from Veronica Mars . . ..

I loved her on Veronica Mars. She was also the little girl with the tattoo in Waterworld...

Watched it last night. When they started talking about shippers I immediately thought of the BBS. Sounds like soap fans are very similar to trek fans!

Fans of 'A' are more often than not very similar to Fans of 'B'.

Sports Fans are very similar to Trek fans too for example.

Talk of stats, what they did right/wrong, and what-if's... Some super-fans even dress-the-part for games/conventions, etc.

Fan Behaviors tend to be expressed in very similar ways.

Once I made the connections, I've never been able to 'not' see it.

^What would be the sports-fan analogue of shipping, though? Or do I want to know?

    And is there slash fiction?

If I were to guess the nearest analogue would be rivalries - as in, what is a greater rivalry, Red Sox-Yankees or Ohio State-Michigan? Or maybe which is the more important rival for your team - Texas/Texas A&M or Texas/Oklahoma as example?

^So in that analogy, would slash fiction be intramural competition?

Omigod, they have to do a CASTLE episode titled "Slash," in which Castle and Beckett discover the existence of "Nikki Heat" fanfic.

And, of course, the murder would involve a mad slasher . . . .

Rivalries are something, but maybe Fantasy Leagues will be closer. A lot of shippers don't let themselves be limited by the text and combine characters in all sorts of bizarre, unsupportable ways. Making a dream team of your favorite players who will never end up together seems like the closer analogue of making a dream relationship out of, say, Reed and Hoshi.

(I'm scared of the Enterprise forum. Can anyone tell me if there are actually Reed/Hoshi shippers?)

My biggest problem with the show is the other characters have minimal personal story due to the Castle/Beckett story and the show really could do with actually you know having more screen time and character depth for everyone. At the moment Beckett is dating a doctor named Josh - that all I know about the guy.

That, and the fact he ONLY shows up whenever them two are about to finally throw caution to the wind and do something. That's whats annoying me, his only purpose is for that and they've made no attempt to make him into something other than "the guy that gets in the way", at least Michael Trucco was a fellow cop (or was he FBI?) who did something.

Probably the closest thing I can think of would be "Fantasy Football"

You pick the team, you pick the players. These are the ones you want to "be together"

Not really a sports fan, though. I tend to find most sports to be pretty boring.

Edit: Just noticed this was already mentioned, so I guess I'm just adding my voice to the mix.

Yeah, fantasy sports makes sense too. The only problem is you lose the Ship to Ship Combat analogue.

I can just see the casting call that went out for Josh's character. "Must be a convincing cockblocker".
