Re: Star Trek: Online

^ Is it true that it's possible for Klingons to fight other Klingons of other Houses or such like?

The Klingons being at war with the Federation just feels so... unnecessary to me. Why not make a new big bad enemy that both the Feds and the Klingons can fight?
Here is where the current books actually provided something that could have served perfectly as a pvp-enemy for Klingons and Federation.

The Typhon Pact

It's an alliance between Romulans (one of the two current romulan states), Gorn, Tholians and a race of avians called Kinshasa (really pissed at the Klingons).

If you go back to my first post in this thread, a couple of pages ago, I said...

As an avid reader of Trek novels, I like the direction the novels have taken post-Nemesis (with Destiny and the Typhon Pact) MUCH more than I do this silly idea that the Klingons are once again the Federation's enemies! I think even if I hadn't read the books, I'd still think it was a stupid idea. Considering the history of the Klingon-Federation Alliance throughout TNG, and especially following the Dominion War, I think its a HUGE step backwards to make them enemies yet again. Especially when it means they aren't introducing new, BETTER enemies - or say, making old enemies who we don't know much about (like the Gorn, Tholians and Breen) join forces with their own alliance.
That is actually the reason I posted here in the first place - I believe the Typhon Pact would be a MUCH better enemy than the Klingons, and wanted to see if anyone else agreed.

Oh, and you forgot the Breen and Tzenkethi.

Re: Star Trek: Online

My guess would be that if they had Klingons as the primary adversary, it would mean less designing of completely new ships for 'new' races. Considering their track record for new vessel designs, I wouldn't put it past the developers.

Unfortunately that report got this response from Cryptic: http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...792#post922792

Also it was mentioned by one of their representatives at the European Games Expo that they expect the release date to fall somewhere in March 2010.

Hmmm, why do I have the feeling that this is too early?

Okay, maybe this says more about me than I'm comfortable with, but...

RANT ON!

Did the guy in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo0o9kKVqDo) call the area of space between the Federation & Klingon Empire the "Arachnis" sector??? (A-RACK-NISS)

It's the "Arcanis Sector" (R-CAIN-NISS)
I thought the people who knew this stuff were working on the game?

I'd rather it be renamed completely than no one there know how to pronounce it.

AND rant over.

Apologies.

I´m really looking forward to this. This could be so great. I hope the monthly fee isn´t to high so. This could easily become the best Star Trek game since "A Final Unity".

Too true, It just bugs me.

It's something I first recall hearing in DS9, and then later in the books.

They said they were using the books to get some ideas, so I think it's just a mispronunciation.

I just hope someone catches it if it is.

2:37 Length Interview with Craig Zinkievich, Exec. Producer of ST:Online including loads of gameplay footage not seen yet on any of the videos posted at TrekBBS.

"If you're teamed up with 4 or 5 other players all of your Captains will end up going down to a ground-based mission.
Craig says. Cool.

So instead of one captain ignoring regulations, we have 5 captains all going on an away mission together.

Sounds really smart...

So not to bump my previous question, but now that system reqs for this game are out, is there a way to know if my laptop will run this game? I don't really know how to find out what I am packin', but my laptop is a Dell XPS M1530. Any help?

Well, just today I got an email from Cryptic formally announcing the February 2nd date. It's truly official.

Go to Control Panel and click on System and you'll see your processor speed, amount of RAM. For your video card go to Hardware & Sound , Device Manager and then Display Adapters and it will show your video card. From the Dell site it says you should have a GeForce 8 series card and so it shouldn't be a problem.

This game is going to suck so horribly bad and die a horrible death, but that won't stop me from suffering through it like everyone else.

bridges in the game as mainly a social hub

If you haven't heard. ST: Online will have bridges.

TrekToday: Star Trek: Online And The Bridge

When players design their virtual vessels, they can choose from about 20 different bridges — like one resembling the command centers aboard the famed Enterprises or the brawny Defiant from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Zinkievich said the bridges will mostly function as social hubs where gamers can hangout with their bridge officers and other captains online.
your bridge not being in the game, it really felt like a hole in the game, and it was just something that we had to put in."
