Speaking of Paul Carr, in The Rockford Files season five "The Empty Frame" (1978) he played half of the first gay couple I ever saw portrayed on TV as just regular people who happened to be gay, and whose sexuality wasn't a major plot point or dwelt on in any way.

The episode also has some of the most hilarious Angel Martin moments of the series, which is saying something.

I remember that. The episode didn't actually acknowledge openly that they were lovers, of course, just friends and business partners who shared a dwelling, but the subtext was clear.

Guy Raymond, from bartender in The Trouble with Tribbles, to bartender on Green Acres.

Does this guy always play bartenders?

Apparently - around the time of Tribbles, he had been in a series of beer commercials as - yes - a bartender. but his IMDB listing long and impressive

So many character actors don't get enough respect. Many of them are very, very good! :)

A lot of his IMDB credits are for characters with actual names, so there's no telling about all of those.

Though in 1959, he did play a Bootlegger on Naked City, and in 1960 was an uncredited Bartender on Maverick.

The thing is, most of these people played basically the same types of roles - and they did them very well. Look at Trek:

Roger C Carmel was really the only choice for Harry Mudd - Kandel never said who he had in mind when he wrote it, but admitted that he really WAS Mudd.

William Windom made a career out of playing normal guys who go very close or over the edge.

Robert Walker Jr was the epitome of adolescent/young adult angst in 60s TV.

    and so on...

Most casting directors for TV in the 60s/70s were casting multiple shows, so yes, you would tend to use familiar faces you know can do the job.

William Windom was a last-minute replacement, though, for a flaked out John Drew Barrymore. He not only wasn't the first choice, he only got the role because the original didn't show up for work.

^No, Robert Brown was a last-minute replacement for John Drew Barrymore as Lazarus in "The Alternative Factor."

Maybe what you're thinking of is that Norman Spinrad wrote the role of Decker with Robert Ryan in mind but Ryan was unavailable.

Just watched an Adam 12 on Netflix through my Roku player, and the guests were:

    William Campbell
    Vic Perrin
    and Johnny Haymer (from AOY)

I have the Roku 3, which has a USB plug - if I only knew how to get screen captures!

I believe you are correct. I got the names mixed up. Probably because of the whole Barrymore thing.

Two for One sale in Adventures of Superman: Czar of the Underworld.

Anthony Caruso strikes a familiar pose as a crimelord.
