It was never mentioned on what ship she was assigned. So if they want they can say she was on the Enterprise and have her return.
We never heard what ship she was assigned to. It very well could have been the Enterprise. Or at least, I'd hope she was!
i thought she was on the Farragut. pretty sure she was on one that went boom. whether SHE was on it when it went boom, or whether she survived in an escape pod's another matter...
Her assignment was not heard. All we know is that it made her smile. Because she was serving with best buddy Uhura on the Farragut? Maybe. Because she was serving on the new flagship, the USS Enterprise? Equally maybe. Because she got some other plum assignment that she was hoping for? Etc. We won't know one way or the other until we see her again. Or not.
brian is right, we never heard anything specific, she could have been smiling for any number of reasons, happy to get into space, got the Enterprise, knew 5 guys aboard the ship she was assigned to :P ... could be anything. I hope we do see her again though.
She's as dead as a dodo. I've never really understood the fascination with latching onto the bit part characters. It's a bit weird if you ask me. I even think it's weird when people say that Boba Fett was their favourite Star Wars character.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with how in less than two minutes of screen time, she made more of an impression than the leading female character...
Is your insistence on talking about her death supposed to make us angry or something ? Out of curiosity I'd like to see you evidence about this death since it's never mentioned on what ship she was on. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned on the matter, I have no obsession with the character. I just happen to find Rachel Nichols beautiful in green skin and red hair and wouldn't mind seeing her again like that. If they give her more to do too it will be a plus. If they keep her out of the sequel that's fine too. Life will go on. Simple really...
If the intention was for her to survive it would be mentioned, otherwise it's a weird piece of storytelling to have an established character disappear without a trace or mention halfway through the film. Unless it's a setup for the sequel, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Galia.
^In other words, you have nothing.... Anyway, lets stop derailing the thread with this ultimately trivial matter. Oh and check and edit your quotes Shazam!
No, I have what was inferred in the film. On the otherhand, there was no inference for survival. To keep the thread on topic, I'll photoshop an image of her dying ; ) TrekBBS has a weird thing where it quotes quotes. I've edited my post.
I'd be slightly more impressed with your reasoning if you'd said "implied" (which you clearly meant) rather than the incorrect "inferred." On the other hand, you have an awesome avatar and your screen name is one of my favorite comic books, so you win.
