This is in it's own scene file apart from the rest of the ship; but, may be able to do something later.
Ok, this asset isn't quite there yet; but, thought I'd post to let you see where I am. Still need to chamfer a lot of edges and add a few elements; but, overall, pleased with the progress of this piece.
Ok, so the turbines are near complete at this point. There are a few details yet that I know are supposed to be there; but, don't have clear images of them as yet.. until then.. this is it. Still have some tweaking to do to the main structure as it still has a few places to condense polys. These are areas I had questions about early on. When in doubt, leave it alone until the scene tells you what needs done. So that's what I'll be doing for a little bit this morning. After that, the consoles need finally to be worked on and the adjacent spaces fleshed out.
I'm hoping a stop-gap The top of those units were angled and overall not as deep. You can see a rough layout from one of my WIPs. @Havoc92 - From screenshots the top of the structures can be made out here and here. Another good shot from further away here. Keep up the good work havoc92
If it's been said elsewhere, my apologies. I recommend checking out The Tressaurian Intersection to see their placement of the emergency manual monitor, as viewed from the main engineering deck floor. I think Jimm Johnson et al did a marvelous job integrating the various engineering sections from the various seasons.
Thanks blssdwlf. Of course, your BPUs are based on the setplan, whereas these are based on FJ's plans. The setplan ones are considerably thinner!
Thank you. I was sure I had those. I know I've seen them; but, couldn't find them for the last week. Too many reference images lol. Thank you thank you!
Exactly. The FJ plans have these things being pretty bloody deep. I've been fighting over whether I should ignore the plan there or not considering the fact that FJ was referencing the same units we've all seen. That's something where I don't have a beef too much with deviation from the plans; but, ..
No worries. The fun part of building is deciding what you'll end up building (or re-building like what I'm constantly doing ) In retrospect, I should have only provided reference shots and not suggest yours needed to look a certain way since you're building off of FJ's plans. You've made great progress and am looking forward to your next update
Been really sick for the last few days and mostly have just been sleeping; but, got a little done this morning.
From what I understand from reading interviews, FJ didn't have access to any set plans, only the tv show as he was originally making the blueprints for his daughter's fan club at the time (1973/74/75). How he was able to pull that off is amazing, without even VHS to me able to pause the show. The BPU's look like they'd be cubes, but they're not. I used a behind the scenes photo I found on William's McCullar's old IDIC page when I drew this cross-section: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14526394@N03/5461940217/in/photostream/ More behind the scenes shots like that would be great to find. They also appear to be higher than the floor of the EMM room: http://tos.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/2x04/TOS_2x10_MirrorMirror0223-Trekpulse.jpg
As an aside, there really should be some effort to restore the IDIC page's contents. So much good stuff has been lost there
