If Star Trek Beyond fails

Why even worry about this now? Is there any reason to expect that the movie will flop this far in advance? As opposed to any other movie?

Nobody makes a movie in the expectation that it will fail. And all movies are potential hits until proved otherwise.

I think this falls into the category of, "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

In the meantime, I don't see any point in wringing our hands over next year's box-office results.

 

While you are correct to assume I'm being facetious, a thought occurs which could work in the Prime Universe's favor. It lasted 40 years, while the reboot would have barely lasted a decade. In this hypothetical scenario, of course.

Besides, if it is a disappointment (nothing is a failure, only a "disappointment"), I'd think the reasons why it was would have to be taken into account before nixing a fourth movie. Maybe it would be a simple fix: bring Abrams back to the director's chair and recast Scotty.

 

I actually agree...someone look outside and see if the Apocalypse has started...

 

It would mean the end of everything. All life, everywhere in the universe, would perish.

 

If it fails, Abrams will be imprisoned for his crimes.
And Paramount, having realized the error of their ways, will give the keys to the Real Fans of Trek, along with 500 million dollars to make a True Star Trek movie.

 

Then they will be filing bankruptcy the next day.

STB will not be a bomb. I know absolutely nothing about Justin Lin or his work, but everything I have ever heard about STB suggests it will be a hit. (The fact that one of the actors IN the film is co-writing it? That's even better. )

 

Which is funny what with it being about a war and all.

 

Well, it is a rallying cry seen a lot these days... Just not by me. While I find the effects impressive for Axanar, I'm underwhelmed by the story idea as it's really nothing new.

 

The F&F guy? I didn't realise he was doing it - they aren't my cup of tea but that guy knows how to make a fast-paced modern film that normal people like and enjoy.

 

"Guess what? Star Trek V is being directed by Captain Kirk himself, so you know it's going to be the best one yet!"

Just teasing. Pegg's a talented guy so I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And certainly Nimoy and Frakes did good work behind the scenes in their day ....

 

I'm not sure what your point is here. If someone were to reboot Trek yet again, why does it matter how long the Prime Universe lasted?

 

I think he meant it was a point in its favor for going back.

 

Odds are that it wont bomb. Its coming out on the 50th anniversary so they will pull out all the stops. If it did fail they wont do a reboot. I don't think filmgoers and star trek fans in general will go fro another portrayal of captain kirk. They will either do a TNG alternate universe movie or go back to television. IMO of course. Still it wont fail.
