Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch Dave, Dave, Dave. How many times have we told you not to kick the door open and beg for it like that?
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch No worse than the idea of a Worf/Troi relationship. (Seriously... Rick must have scored some really good shit the week he approved that...)
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch I'm sorry, but that was the worst relationship EVER in any Trek series. Every time I see one of the epsiodes with them together I cringe. Just out of curiosity, how does Peter Daivid handle the realtionship in Imzadi 2?
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch I think PAD handled the relationship very nicely and brought closure to it. But that's just me. I'm one of those few people who enjoyed Imzadi II more than Imzadi.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch I very much agree with the first part. I am not sure if I am indeed in a majority but nevertheless, I am not a fan of Imzadi II. PAD wrote Worf the way he was in late DS9, very accurately but also, to me, at his most annoying. More than once I was forced to ask myself, what IS Deanna seeing in this guy!? Fortunately Worf is much more bearable in later books. In many cases I even liked his parts in them.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch I've been reading Titan: Taking Wing, and I haven't yet decided who I would cast as the characters who haven't already been cast apart from Ree. In my mind I cast Andy Serkis as Ree, and I pictured him performing it in a similar way to Gollum. That is wearing the bluesuit with the motion sensors, then adding in the CGI character in later. In addition the Gollum voice would be quite useful in conveying the sibbylance indicative of Ree's voice.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch Except that, as I seem to keep having to point out, Ree is not humanoid in shape. He's built more like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch Andy Serkis is a pretty good pick, my only problem is the Gollum voice, I've been imagining Ree with a deeper more gravely voice, more like his normal voice, which is actually pretty deep.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch My choice for Ree's voice has always been the voice Scott McNeil used as the raptor-like "Dinobot" on Beast Wars: Transformers, which is one of the great character voices of all time. McNeil used essentially the same voice as one of the dinosaurlike aliens in the Outer Limits adaptation of James Patrick Kelly's Hugo-winning novelette "Think Like a Dinosaur."
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch Ooh, good choice. Scott McNeil rocks; even knowing he did the voice of four of Beast Wars/Beast Machines' main characters, I still can't tell...
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch As it happens, Scott McNeil is also pretty much the voice I hear in my head for Elias Vaughn, but in more of the deep-voiced, gruff mode he used for Wolverine in X-Men Evolution. I say "pretty much" because the voice I hear is actually kind of a morph of that voice, Gene Barry, and Gregory Peck.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch I just saw Mission Impossible III and I couldn't help but think that Maggie Q would be a really good Prynn.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch I've got a really wacky notion! How about Bruce Campbell as Captain Mackenzie Calhoun in New Frontier? You can't help but respect a starship captain who "leads with his chin," right?? In all seriousness, though, if anyone would be able to capture Calhoun's mixture of aggression, irreverence, and integrity perfectly, it would definitely be Campbell!
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch For anybody who thinks that Bruce can only play the sort of wry characters he usually does, I suggest you have a look at his Homicide: Life on the Street 2 part episode Justice. He's excellent in that as a detective who falls under suspicion when his father's killer turns up dead.
Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch ^ What Cavit said. That role -- which was in the show's fourth season -- was a tour de force. Homicide was good at using comic actors for serious roles, cf. Robin Williams and Chris Rock.
