Is the young Kirk driving the car over the cliff scene as cheesy and nonsensical as it appears in the trailer?

Does Kirk's banishment to the ice planet make any sense?

I can't believe we're just a month away, now. I remember the announcement of the film's delay like it was yesterday, and now it's so close.

I'm insanely jealous of you folks who have gotten to see it already. :p

So how is the musical score? How does it compare to the great Goldsmith/Horner Trek scores?

funny that you ask because last night we saw the opening sequence of TWOK right before the beginning of the new movie.

The music is not as good. There is a sense of majesty and wonder in the Goldsmith/Horner score that is hard to recreate.

That said, the music is excellent and complements the film well. Perhaps it was just less memorable than the old scores.

I mentioned elsewhere that it's very Sturm und Drang at times... and I continue to think that's accurate.

I didn't mean for these questions to come across as negatively as they do, but I am serious about seeking answers to those questions. The reason being is that the rest of the movie looks so good, I want to know if those particular parts actually work or if they are the low points of an otherwise very good movie?

I like this thread so much more than the spoiler thread.

Cliff scene: It sets up this kind of adolescent, rebellious character and offers a cultural touchstone with the contemporary world.

What's funny is that each element in the scene is dated even by modern standards, a choice that is appropriate. I think I would have hated the scene had they chosen some 2009 car and 2009 song to play. Mixing up the future with our past worked for me.

The ice planet totally makes sense. That works.

I'm so jealous of those who got to see it! I'm purposefully avoiding the spoilered thread, but I'm so glad to hear such glowing reviews. :techman:

Yeah, I'm avoiding the spoilers thread, myself. I can't believe all the views it's getting--why do so many people actually want to be spoiled? :wtf:

Trekmovie has video of what happened in Austin. It really brings tears to my eyes to see Nimoy walk up on stage and experience the surprise and awe that those of you who were there must have felt.

You can see video of the event (not the movie though ) here.

Re: Advance screening/World Premiere discussions [the NO-SPOILERS vers

My review for the new trek, amazing. JJ Abrams got a standing ovation and handshakes from some paramount execs who were also at the premiere in Sydney, my Dad, 65, who was a fan of only the original series came out and said he couldn't see any trek fan seeing it and not liking it. One thing for all of you who have remained spoiler free, like I did. Hang tough and avoid that spoiler thread, this film needs to be seen and experienced, it will be well worth it in a month. I know have to go and find out how I can get tickets to the midnight screening, I have to wait a whole month before I can see it again.

Just be thankful they are keeping it discrete so far.

Pretty soon though, you can bet people will start posting huge spoilers in threads without warning, or, even worse, in the actual thread titles. I'm going to have to stop my visits here when that happens.
