I really loved this book (as I do all of Mack’s stuff). As a parent, I feel for Soong and believe in his actions; his efforts and sacrifice were very touching. If Mack doesn’t have children, I’m that much more surprised that he was able to capture the feelings of a parent so well and completely. I just hope fans aren’t complaining that Data should have been left dead and that this devalues his sacrifice in Nemesis.

The one thing I didn’t like about this book was Soong’s monologue was a bit long. Though I am glad Soong’s activities were well laid out in detail, I struggled reading through those several chapters. Was Soong telling that whole story to Worf and Geordi? If so, they must have been standing there for a long time.

Now it looks like this book will be part of another trilogy involving Immortal Coil and whatever future book has Data facing off with Flint. If so, I would look forward to it as I eagerly anticipate anything written by the maestro.

A few questions of mine to readers and David Mack:

I’m confused by Geordi’s love life; so he ISN’T with Brahms now!?!

I thought it was strange that Jasminder dies the same way Tasha died; Worf even mentioned this was the case. I’m curious to know why it was chosen to have her murdered rather than her to die fighting while the Breen attempted to capture her. I’m also thinking being in love with Worf is a death sentence.

Why did the Breen ships break off? Sure the factory was gone and there was nothing left to defend but wouldn’t they want to destroy the ship that destroyed their holdings, especially with 4 to 1 odds? They knew they were facing the Enterprise so I would think the Breen captains would like the bragging rights to say they destroyed the federation flagship. After the Enterprise committed espionage, killed Breen citizens, and destroyed a Breen facility, I’d say they wouldn’t have faced a legal back lash.

Mack addresses so much from the trilogy in his new interview on the Chronic Rift, including continuity with Indistinguishable from Magic. Also Pocket's editorial changes in regime of late, the development of the books, and so on. Really interesting!

Is there a written copy of this interview somewhere? I can't play the podcast for some reason. I'm really curious about what he says about continuity with IFM...

You need quicktime I think to listen online, but if you right click on the image and 'save as', you should have an mp3. Here is a direct link to the audio file.

I'm loving this book myself and I thought it was interesting that Noonien Soong never actually died. That's something I never thought of after I saw "Brothers" for the first time when it was reruning on air at the time.
I'm half way though and should be able to finish by time Book 2 comes out soon, which I hope is this friday but knowing what happened last time maybe I will wait til next week to get it.

There's another big plus for eBooks.

DC Comics screwed the entire DC Universe with a major reset button. So screw them and their actions here on out are meaningless.

Yeah. I won't go into detail of hate so as to not get too off topic but yeah really not thrilled with DC and their decision to reboot their universe yet again.

    1) The reboot has nothing to do with my point of ressurection = bad.

    2) the reboot must have done something right since DC's sells are up.

The DCU reboot hasn't been all that bad, especially if you're reading certain books. Grant Morrison's Action Comics has been good, while JH Williams III's Batwoman is amazing and wasn't really affected by the reboot at all. Scott Snyder has hit it out of the park with Batman, and Peter Tomasi's Batman & Robin has been great as well. Wonder Woman by Brian Azzarello is the best WW i've ever read.

I was wary of the reset at first, as i've followed the Bat-family's exploits religiously for years, but after the dust settled, I realized they were just stories. They live and die by their quality and not by their history.

The DC reboots have only been different due to resets, not really improvements.
