I had to go with above average. It was a good movie but it was a bit of a letdown after Casino Royale.
I'm one of the few that found the second half of Casino Royale as thrilling as the first -- if not more so. Just because there wasn't any quick cuts, action sequences or foot chases doesn't make a well-played card game less entertaining. The eye contact between Bond and LeChiffre was magnetic, and I was glued to the screen to see what happened next. Bond facing off assassins and getting poisoned only added to the mix.
Agreed. Although, the rifftrax was pretty funny. Can't wait to see if they do QoS. Now that should be good.
I just saw it today with my son. I voted Above Average but should have voted Excellent. The car chase at the beginning kicked total ass as did Bond's quick wit and brute resistance toward his enemies. As of this movie, I have now put Daniel Craig as THE BEST BOND, with Sean Connery dropping to #2. I cannot wait for the next Bond film. I would love to see Craig playing Bond for at least 6 or even 7 films.
You know, I read the Casino Royale book over the holidays. Daniel Craig's Bond is definitely similiar to Book Bond. However, I found it to be a case where I enjoyed the movie better than the book. More exciting and fleshed out the Vesper character more. But considering the movie was adaptated fifty years later, they stayed true to much of the overall story. That being said, Quatum of Solace still sucked balls. The new kind of Bond film doesn't have to be boring and joyless.
Can't believe how high this has been scored here. I like how Mark Kermode summed it up on his 2008 Review I saw last night in BBC News 24 "Be honest about it, Quantum of Solace was a whole bunch of nothing. No plot, no memorable theme tune, no quotable one-liners, no discernable love interest. Not even the sight of Daniel Craig on his tight little pants" I would totally agree. I saw this film 7 weeks ago now, and I can barely remember anything about it. I worked out I saw 20 films at the cinema in 2008, some great, some bad. But this would easily be at the bottom of the pile.
Yup. That pretty much sums it up. It wasn't a bad film by any means, just kinda vapid and void of any "Bondness."
For those who do not like it, it would be an interesting exercise to see how this rated with them as a "spy film" or an "action film" v. "Bond film".
I gave QoS one star, and I don't think it succeeds as a Bond movie or a regular spy movie. I enjoyed The Bourne Identity, and QoS does not come near that level.
