The only thing that would've drawn me to Vegas was the Star Trek Experience thing, and that's not there any more. Oh well.

Spent a weekend in Boston in March. It was mostly for a chordoma conference, but I did get to walk around Beacon Hill and go to the Museum of Fine Arts.

I'm hoping to visit friends and family in upstate NY for a few days in August (unfortunately the same weekend as Shore Leave), but that's probably it for this year.

    Gorgeous!

My dad took me to Vegas for my 21st birthday. The best memories I have of that time was the food, the neon, and the shows. Did hardly any gambling.

I'm not a gambler and have zero interest in the casinos, but that hasn't stopped me from visiting Vegas three times. There are plenty of things to see and do in Sin City. If you like dining, there are all kinds of restaurants for every taste. I've been to three buffet restaurants and a dozen other cafés, bars, and bistros. If you like shopping, there are all kinds of places for bargain hunters, as well as world-class stores and boutiques.

And I would say 90% of the good stuff is entertainment. :) I've been only to one show and would surely love to see more--Criss Angel, Kaa, Mystere, etc. The last trip I had with my brother three years ago was by far the best, being my first time to see an adult-oriented show at the Flamingo. ;) I've also done the ST Experience at the Hilton. I've gone to Madam Tussaud's wax museum, which is just one of hundreds of attractions along the Strip.

The weather is excruciatingly hot in August, which is the cheapest month for me to go, but it's well worth it. There's more to Las Vegas than just casino chips and slot machines.

Marshmellows you mean? We didn't camp outdoors, unfortunately.

July 10-14 I'll be camping in Okemah, OK for the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. I do it every year. It's the five days I take for myself, no matter what else comes my way. It's a tiny ass town, and I've made friends with the grand-daughter of the owner of the coolest bar in town. Just a bunch of hipsters and old folkies hanging out for 5 days going to concerts, sitting around the camp drinking, smoking (I no longer partake in that, but man... back in the day) and generally hootenannying.... good times.

I believe there is a layover and a change of trains at LAUPT. I belive the Coast Starlight terminates in LA and you have to transfer to a San Diegan. It's about 8 hours from LA to SF on the train once you figure in stops.

Yeah, I figured there was a joke that was just cropdusting me ;)

The whole time, I kept trying to figure out where exactly they would have camped.

[Ecology Dork] Where they camped could have been easily a streambed or in middle of a road in our time[/Ecology Dork]

No doubt :) I was trying more to pinpoint where it would have been in regards to the movie, but then again, these things are hard to figure out, particularly since they're not always filmed on location.

Yes, I know. Was that scene even filmed in Yosemite anyway? For all we know, it was a wooded city park across the street from the Paramount Lot.

Well, late summer. Going to NYC with a friend at the beginning of September for about a week.
