I agree that it would have been nice to see. I was responding to the claim that TOS would have given that role to Uhura- as there is nothing in the show to support that.

Plenty to discount it: Helen Noel, Janet Wallace, etc.

I'd like to think, the character of McKennah is close to a would have been Janice Rand. I said something similar over at trekmovie.
It doesn't always have to be a McCoy to speak "frankly" to the Captain. Janice would have been fine, too. So might be McKennah.

So now we have a redhead instead of a red miniskirt... I love it. She's a beauty!

As a 22 or so year old Yeoman she sure as hell would have no place talking back to the Captain as if she were an equal.

Regardless, McKennah is still not an equal. She doesn't hold the rank of Captain and is therefore subservient to Kirk. She's not the CMO, so she shouldn't have the same leeway as Bones. AND she hasn't been on the ship that long nor does she have a history with Kirk beyond what we've seen in two adventures. Her portrayal in that regard is unrealistic.

I completely agree and have said so more than once here and elsewhere on STC's Facebook page and in direct feedback through their website.

Well, unless her position as ships counselor does give her the authority and ability to speak frankly and openly with the captain. It seems that the position would almost have to require that sort of freedom for her to be effective. Something a yeoman certainly would not have.

For me, that doesn't fit the template. But that's just me.

Agreed. And I find her tone of familiarity when she hasn't earned it crosses over into disrespect.

I think my problem with that point of view is that even if it were true, I don't think the bridge would be a good place for that viewpoint to be voiced.

It's because fan films are more informed by the TNG-ENT era when it comes to the writing of their scripts. They look to TOS for the aesthetic, but it feels as if the writers turn more to TNG-ENT for how they should write scripts, from the way the characters interact to the reams of technobabble.

Did Troi ever confront Picard about his emotions on the bridge? I admit, I can't recall every instance but I don't think so.

That's an interesting point. And mercifully so far STC has been largely devoid of TNG style technobabble except for that one flub (by Sulu) in "Pilgrim Of Eternity."

When it comes to technobabble, PII's "Enemy: Starfleet" is the worst offender.

Love the fact that these fan films are being made, although the acting etc. in some of them leaves something to be desired. It's great to know that people love Star Trek enough to make them.

It certainly doesn't hurt to have the diversity of productions.

Just for fun I revisited some of Starship Exeter this afternoon and was reminded of how it largely clicks for me. It has heart and a good feel to it. I hope we get to see the last instalment soon.

The last part is still coming? It's been a better part of a decade.

That puts somewhere around the beginning of April.
