Wow, that's a great score! Wave 5 with the Prequel Vader isn't even close to appearing at domestic retail, so the only ways to get it right now are by ordering/winning an auction online or at special collecting events like the one you mentioned.

Congrats, man! He's getting a lot of glowing reviews as possibly the greatest 3.75" Darth Vader action figure ever made.

I'm going to post a picture (and of me at the event) shortly. I got him just as the event was ending. The guy hadn't realized it was different from the other Black Series Vader!

A lot of people will probably confuse him for the earlier Black Series Darth Vader. Except for the Bespin-specific blast effect and other accessories there's little cosmetic difference between the 2013 Wave 1 figure and the Revenge of the Sith version.

$12 for an unreleased figure? You just won the prize for Score of the Week!

Thanks! Yeah there were a lot of figures I wanted like the 6 inch Boba Fett, Stormtrooper, and Jabba there (including a Delux Jabba with some throne room accessoriues) but since I'm not much of a collector I didn't want to walk out much poorer. It was a good time, though.

Here I am with the droid I was looking for:

I also spotted import Masterpiece Grimlock and Prowl... OMG they were awesome

I heard that too, except his head comes off!

Here's a Yakface.com video where both the figure and its head design problem are discussed:

Apparently - for most online collectors who've seen and handled him - the head's not a deal breaker. The rest of the figure is so amazing that the head can be (largely) overlooked.

I agree. Not the Vader you want to give a kid. There are plenty of others for that!

I love the title of the video. Tribute to my favorite line from Dumb and Dumber (wherein Carrey is trying so hard not laugh while speaking it!)

:) Thanks. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. To the core. One of my first memories of watching movies is the scene wherein Han Solo is chasing down stormtroopers (of course he must then make a retreat) and from that point on I was sucked into the world.. a world created by the artifice of film-making and innovation.. The trilogy is the milestone in cinema!

I know the feeling. The films, stories, characters and toys have been a part of my life since I was just a few years old.

I am glad the new films are returning to the "grit" of the originals.

I also picked up a vintage Gammorean Guard (1983) at the fest. He was loose, so he sits on my dash near the speedometer.. no choking him is allowed.

Ah, one of the great and classic Kenner figures. Do you have the 2011-12 Vintage Collection Gamorrean Guard? It's routinely named one of the best Star Wars action figures of the Modern collecting era.

I don't have that... but I will seek it out.. It looks fantastic. I love Gamorrean Guards.. I remember becoming fascinated by them when they were in the Sarlacc pit board game!

The Vintage Collection Gamorrean Guard is most definitely worth getting! His secondary market prices can be a little bit inflated, but he's cheaper than some of the other ultra-popular and not-very-common figures in the recent lines.

Thanks for that tip.. and with the video, I must say I am impressed.. I think getting secondary Star Wars characters and background players is something I almost enjoy more thna getting major players. I will try to "score" a good deal again!

Here's that game I was referring to. Anyone have it?

The other figures in the new Darth Vader's Black Series wave assortment seem to be pretty great, too.

This is the first Wedge who's not in an X-Wing pilot's flight suit, this particular Skiff Guard has never been made before and this is the first new Ree-Yees from Jabba's Palace since 1998.

They all look fantastic. Especially the skiff guard!

Did they ever make a new jawa for black series at either scale?

    Nope.

Not yet, anyways. There are rumors they might make a 6"-scale Jawa but right now it's just talk. I was hoping they'd have released a new Jawa while the Vintage Collection was still being made so they could put him on a classic "Star Wars" Kenner cardback with the original photo, but they had other plans. If Vintage returns I hope a Jawa is one of the figures they make.
