But not hurting enough to keep Michael bay from being hired to make more movies, so all you haters can give up the wishful thinking.

I gave it average. To be honest what I liked best were geeky Star Trek bits.
    1. Spock as a Transformer
    2. Transformer Spock's use of the needs speech.
    3. Bumblebee using part of Spock's words to Jim when talking to Shia's character.

I was not horrified or overly entertained. I did not feel robbed or the need to pull my eyes from their sockets = average.

Amazing to me that these so-called experts didn't factor in that, you know, there were probably a LOT of people who lost interest in the franchise after the shitty 2nd movie.

"Experts" and their basis for their expectations baffle me at times. This is one of those times.

I went to 10 Botcons straight with 2 friends. Die-Hard TF fans and one of those friends just flat out refuses to see TF3 in theaters after the shit that was ROTF. The chance he'll give it is $1 Redbox, not $14 IMAX 3-D, not even $10.50 2-D. He's not alone, a crappy installment will bring down subesquent entries. How do these "experts" not know this. I mean crapy in terms of quality, not $$$$, maybe this is the disconnect. The GA realizes 2yrs later how crappy ROTF did and like my friend said screw it. The accountants are only looking at the $$$$, thus the disconnect.

There is more involved in a future installments success than the precedding movies gross take. You'd think they'd have figured that out now after things like Tomb Raider 2, Pink Panther 2 and I'm sure other films where the example is the same.

They don't base their business expectations on Internet chatter, opinion-mongering and excuse-making, but they are led to some extent by what they understand the studio's own research, planning and expectations to be.

Oh, Prime's a total raging psycho in this one. They pretty much took his "give me your face" characterization from RoTF and ran with it for an entire movie.

Fortunately for my own enjoyment, I have no childhood attachment to the character (my only Prime toy growing up was the Powermaster one and it sucked) so I watched the whole thing was a sort of detached amusement.

It's a pretty solid article, but in fairness:
Has that ever worked for Batman?

    Ever?

I don't think it's really fair to blame Prime for Sentinel going bad, but otherwise I think the article is spot on.

But it does raise a point about the supposed moral superiority of the Autobots vs Decepticons.

For example, earlier in the film we are supposed to feel outraged as the Decepticons start executing captured Autobots. BUT... The Autobots don't even bother to take any prisoners! They just kill all Decepticons that they can. So... How are they any better?

Be that as it may, you really wouldn't want to cite Batman's abysmal track record as the 'better' option. Putting your villain in a revolving door prison, making a witty remark, and locking horns with him next year is hardly better.

Same mentality of people who bitched about The SEALS not taking OBL alive.

Sentinel Prime intended to enslave Humanity. (As in all of Humanity!) Who really gives a rip if the Good Guy leader double-tapped his ass?

Sentinel was beaten, broken, and posed no further danger, also Optimus Prime speaks a lot about virtue and "respecting the rights of all sentient beings" but then he rips out a former mentor's head.

If Osama had been beaten, broken, laying on the ground, and begging for mercy there'd be a lot more flack if the SEALS then decided to double-tap him anyway.

Optimus didn't stop an active threat, he killed "someone" who was posed no further danger whatsoever.

And besides, in war the duty of soldiers is to destroy the enemy in battle. Prime and co are soldiers, heroic soldiers but still soldiers.

Did someone just compare Optimus Prime taking out Sentinel in a Transformers movie to SEALS taking out Osama Bin Laden?

    :wtf:

And that's fine, as long as there are no complaints when enemies (real or fictional) do the same to our soldiers/civilians.

That's why *I* brought up the "executing prisoners" scene of the film.

In addition, both Sentinel's means (Space Bride pillars and Decpeticon army) and motive (Cybertron) were rubble by then, so even if he'd been calling for blood, there wasn't really anything he could do about it. He was never a Batman supervillain who would always have another opportunity to reoffend, so I don't agree with the argument that he needed to die.
