There is nothing special about the English countryside. But then again I live in it. But perhaps it would be fair to say one persons special place is anothers person boring place. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say becuase you live there and it's on your doorstep so to speak you see it everyday so it's normality for you.
I had a similar thing happen to me once. A woman parked her little truck out front, and it began rolling down the slope in the parking lot. I thought it was going to roll into my land yacht Dodge Royal Monaco (this I had before a Fairmont). I chased it down the slope, opened the door and pushed the brake pedal with my hand. It slowed and the open door caught me by surprise. I steadied myself and pushed again and got it to stop. It went past my car almost to the street below. Did I mention how God really hates me?
