Firstly, I'd like to thank you guys for the votes. It was very close, and I honestly thought Gul Re'jal would win. It was a pleasant surprise.

We've all made mistakes, some bigger then others. And sometimes they are real doozies. So what do we do when we commit these epic fails?

Your mission this month, should you choose to accept it, is to create a story where a character or crew must seek redemption for something they've done. Perhaps a captain bent (or broke) the rules to do what he felt was morally right, but then wondered if it really was. Maybe a Starfleet Intelligence Operative got a little too under cover and is trying to find a way to redeem himself. Whether they succeed or not is entirely up to you, but what must they do to get there.

I'm going to give this one 10,000 words, as I think something like this could go longer then our usual word limit. Heck, it could even go longer then that, but we don't want to many novels to read at once in a month.

I'm also setting the deadline for December 2nd, 11:59 pm PST, as many of us will be in a coma for at least a couple days after this months holiday.

Beyond that, any crew, any era, canon/fanon, it's all up to you.

I look forward to reading what you guys come up with.

Hmm...hey, Kaziarl--I am actually writing a tale involving a favorite character of mine going through an emotional struggle, involving the consequences of a decision they'd made.

The idea is, they're convinced that they're effectively going through a sort of "penence" for what they did--and another character is trying to help them recover from it.

I don't know if that goes well with what you're looking for...but what do you think?

Sounds ok. As long as it's trek and you haven't done too much work on it. For the most part the challenges are done within the month they are issued, so I think several would agree anything you've been working on for a couple of months or more wouldn't be ideal.

But yeah, sounds like it would work fine.

Okay, I've decided to enter. I'm working on a story now (my second fan fic ever; the first is complete but I'm waiting for a counterpart piece from another member before posting it).

Just checking...it can be anything so long as it's Trek, right?

Yup. As long as it is in the trek universe, it's fine.

One question--am I allowed to refer to specific scenes in a Trek Novel? Because a couple of scenes in my tale are basically scenes from a book, just in a different POV.

    (Don't worry, I'll credit them.)

Ok, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you just going to be rewriting the novel and entering it?

I believe El Rushbo means to take scenes from a novel and have the characters reflect on them. think back about what happened or something similar. rather common.

    or am i way off?

^No, that's basically it--just two scenes. The dialogue is exactly the same, just the thinking is done by a different character.

One's at the very beginning, the other one is a character thinking back.

    Hmm.... I guess thats ok.

Also, with the change of perspective, you might consider playing with the dialog a little. We all remember things a little differently after all. Just a thought.

Quick question, can it be a AU story? I have a story in mind for a character who really needs a bit of redemption...

Yes, as long as it relates to trek in some way. So it can be about AU Klingons, who smile and plant azalea bushes. lol.

^:guffaw:. Well, I'm not gonna go THAT far are there aren't any Klingon's to ruin things but it definitely relates to trek, specifically DS9;)
