What is this thing called? I've seen it over and over and over in sci-fi movies and Trek episodes!

 

But they've still to answer Buck Murdock question from Airplane II "What does it do?"

 

It can be fun spotting the things that have been reused in Star Trek.

It's obviously a toaster spray painted green with purple polka dots.

 

If it were up to me, I would invert it and place it on the ceiling with all the Fluorescent lamps

 

Somehow that thing was even in the shuttlebay in STV. I remember thinking, "I don't have a clue what that thing does, but I know the shuttlebay isn't the place for it."

 

Well, it does sort of look like a futuristic lathe. Surely there'd be uses for one in a garage...
