That´s interesting...because there was almost exactly something like (but no model parts) that here in Germany somewhen in the 90s / late 90s. Huge binders, monthly issues...beautiful fold outs. I used to buy them for a while back then...but I think they were either discontinued after a while or my local train station magazine store stopped having them...don´t remember. (back then most Star Trek Fan media was only available at those little train station shops for some reason)
^The Star Trek Fact Files. They were available in the UK as well. I got 'em all, I'm almost embarrassed to admit.
I've always loved the Sternbach drawings since I got them as a kid. There's a few things I disagree about with them, such as the relative sparcity of stairs and having too many turbolift runs, but the detail really is amazing. I'm actually working on a (rather less detailed) set myself based on them and the Whitefire set.
Silly me, I thought those were guide lights for the shuttle pilot. There are two landing stripes above them...
Very cool! I assume the rectangular doohickey just forward of the arboretum is the emergency turbolift connecting the main bridge and battle bridge?
Nah, probably just a floor hatch to a Jeffries tube. The bridge/battle bridge is all the way at the center of the saucer. The arboretum is out near the edge.
Rick, do you think there's going to be a digital release of these? Also, what program do you use to do these? Also, if you don't mind me asking, I always wondered why Deck 9 of the battle section was basically blank, with just an outline of where the bits on Deck 8 were (ie battle bridge, the rear section with the phasers).
Wow, this stuff is looking good! I hope you can talk CBS into a print release of this update very soon.
Re: design package: Seems like there is no standard package to design with - I asked Doug Drexler recently and he said he uses Adobe Illustrator.
Question for Rick: was there any thought out into the emergency turboshaft detail we see here? Any thought on why it would be different from the "standard" shaft we see below it? Mark
That's why they didn't saucer sep much -- the one rectangular turbo shaft tends to get easily damaged during a battle.
I don't know why the emergency turbo was rectangular; maybe just to make it different and special. You'd have to ask Andy Probert about that one. As to the mag coil liners in my vector illo, it *was* to make it look special. Rick
