Although I'm not like that, I don't think that the original costumes are anything offensive (with only two exceptions as I've mentioned.)

Hold on there, not everything is all doom and gloom-the comic books are still the same as before, albeit with a little adult shading for DC,Marvel, Dark Horse, Dynamite, IDW, etc. Many of them are quite good, and you'll be able to find a book or two that will suit your fancy. As to why the books like with most magazines) cost a lot-well, paper costs a lot, as does the producing of said books (they're no longer done on newsprint like they used to be.) If you can't afford those, you can always read the TPB (trade paperback) omnibus collections of them, or get the digital download for Kindle and whatever reader device exists.

Best thing to do? Go to a comic book store and look around, and also do some homework on the Internet generally.

    What about gay marriage?

If you play it right, you can marry some nerd for his comics.

    Is this good or bad?

Nerd on nerd marriage will lead to redundancy reduction in their collections, and nerd divorce will lead to massive recoupment, as they try to fill in the holes in their collections their better half won't fill in no more.

Good to hear, and I will do so!...so much to re-learn! :)

For my own personal preference, I would need to marry a Nerdette for Her comics. But, a thought, nonetheless...

...do you think I would need to sign a Pre-Comic Nup? Where has the trust gone?

"Do you, HIjol, take Nerdine to be your lawfully wedded Superheroine...?...forsaking all Lesser Comic Houses...?...supplying Seal-A-Meal® bags to keep your "rares" safe...?...respectfully role-playing in the privacy of your...?...never EVER shouting "Flame-On" in the bedroom...?...on Earth, as it was on Krypton...?...forsakeing all others, unless the costumes were Fully Hot...?...

Hljol, nerdettes, in the wild, outside of Comicon, are incredibly rare and valuable.

It's almost easier to date fashion models.

Don't I know it! There was this one Con, in Rosemont, Illinois (where I shared some Special Moments with Erin Gray, but that is for another Thread) where I was picking up the Bat'leth I had commissioned by an Authentic Klingon. Anyway, I am coming back, cradling my Prize, when I glimpsed a Northern Nipped Nerdina, clearly having difficulty getting in through the Con entrance. She was dressed as one of Zena's Minioniña, in Full Battle Array! It was everything I could do to keep my NerdNads in my ManSack! Dude, You can imagine! I tried to go around and help, but...she had flown the Con. Later, I saw her walking along the Expressway...IN THE WILD! Capture was this close, but a BattleBoy NinjaNerd pulled his Dodge Dart over (he had customized it with those Power Ranger Samurai Symbol Brushes). She was entranced. I didn't have a chance. But I will never forget her!

A note about comic collecting - don't bother.
I just sold my entire 50-year collection of roughly 9,000 comics (21 long boxes) to a comic shop. For a lousy $1,000.

True, you'd get more selling them by individual title a little at a time, but I needed the room.

I've since cut my purchases of $4-a-pop comics down to just my few favorite titles, and I'm no longer saving them.

If you wait a few months the digital versions usually start to go down in price.
Here's how the prices for the current Action Comics line up:
The most recent issues, #41 and #42 are $3.99.
    #40 - #19 are $2.99
    #18 is $3.99
    #17 -# 2 and #0 are $2.99
    #1 is $0.99
    #23.1 - #23.4 are $1.99
The special Future's End issue is $1.99
The 3 Annuals are each $3.99

I'm going to say the most obvious thing that has not yet been said.

Practical people, women or otherwise, do not become superheroes.

Practical people, women or otherwise, become supervillains.

They become accountants. There are easier ways to steal money than dressing in a parka and freezing things

When I told my wife (who is a bookkeeper) about a recent story where a company's PayPal accountant skimmed $300k over ten years, she said "Oh, I know exactly how to do that." My eyes lit up. She shook her head and said "Notice she got caught - if you can't steal enough, quickly, to move to another country, change your identity, and live off for the rest of your life, it just ain't worth it."

Float the parka and freeze gun approach, see if that appeals to her. ;)

That's why Mr Glass is one of my favourites. And he has a pretty cool real-world costume (if a little pimp).

Like others have said, those re-designs are colorless; making them boring.

Look at the X-Men Evolution. Most are practical and have some color

Do we really want all the heroes to look the same?

Maybe all the superheroes can dress like Special Forces or SWAT team members.
