12 REASONS WHY THE NEW STAR TREK MOVIE IS JUST LIKE STARS WARS

Nothing new is in Hollywood. The old script writers for Star Wars rewrote their old script and changed the characters into our familiar Star Trek heroes. They used some lines from the original tv series, hired new actors, and recycled the old Star Wars script, and expected Science Fiction fans not to notice the difference.

    Cases in Point

    1.Light Sabers- Sulu's got one.

    2. Recycled Imperial Fleet uniforms, dye them red- Starfleet's got em.

    3. Cantina brawls- Iowa's got em.

    4. Blowing up a planet to torture someone who's watching- Got em.

    5. Marooned on Ice planet Hoth- Kirk's got it.

    6. Meeting an old Vulcan Master with pointed ears on an empty planet- Yoda? Nope-Kirk does it.

    7. Huge planet destroying ship that can be destroyed by one little ship? Yep, done that.

    8. Cute little Ewok alien with huge black eyes that can't speak Federation? Got one.

    9. Police in land speeders? Got em.

    10. Whiny droid?- name him McCoy3PO - Got one.

    11. Jim, I am your father, (whoops, should have put my transmission in neutral, not forward.)

    12. At the end of movie, everyone gets a huge promotion and a medal? Yup, done that, too.

Got some of your own? Add Em here and forward it along!

No, that was a sword. Note the lack of light.

There's a difference between a barroom brawl and a shooting.

Remind me who was "marooned" on Hoth.

    Spock: You... are Montgomery Scott...
Scott: Aye, that's me. You see any other hungry Starfleet officers around here?
    Keenser: Yeah, me!

Yeah, that sounded like english to me.

Bones was a robot? Thanks for ruining the sequel!

You know, most fictional characters have parents.

They made it a non-stop action thrill ride filled with humor and romance.

    Taking place in space.

That is why this film is like Star Wars.

And it's either that or Trek dies.

What? McCoy to me doesn't come off as whiny, he comes off as sarcastic or a wise crackin' sidekick.

Trek is just a name. If the essence of what Trek is about dies then Trek is dead regardless of how many movies or tv shows are released with the name "Star Trek" stamped on them.

The worst part is that you probably could come up with 12 similarities.... if you know... you actually tried.

After watching it for 25+ years, I don't know what the essence of Star Trek truly is. It changes with each episode and movie.

If Trek has to become similar to Wars in order to be a success, then it is not Trek that has succeeded, it's Star Wars.

Trek pretty much stayed true to what it was about through Voyager.

After Voyager Trek lost its soul and sold out.

Trek is many things. It doesn't really have an 'essence' anymore, per se. Trek is action, Trek is romance, Trek is courtroom drama, Trek is morality plays (not so much anymore), as you said, it varies from episode to episode.

But some say it changed with Deep Space 9. As good as that series was, some say it deviated from Gene's original vision.

Yeah. I still think Voyager, despite its faults, still had the heart and soul of Trek. Episodes like Tuvix and Blink of an Eye could have easily been done on TOS.

It deviated away from atheism... aside from that it was pretty much on track.

DS9 was an example of how to deconstruct and re-present a universe in a different perspective, done right (unlike the execution of, say, the Matrix sequels. Execution, mind you. The ideas between Reloaded and Revolutions were solid)

DS9 like TOS and TNG before it explored the human condition and did social commentery.

Enterprise was the first attempt to dumb down Trek and make it more of an action series. This new Trek film completed the transformation.

    Kirk: So do I.
