http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/11/22/sotl-2011-is-a-go/ Pierre Drolet and I will team on a page refitting the NX-01 to a fifth season projection… picture a secondary hull and a TOS porcelin finish. I totally can't wait to see this!
Hm! I'm actually pretty interested in how this will turn out. I hate the NX-01, but maybe they can make it look like a proper prequel ship and spiff it up. And what is "SOTL"?
A: I almost had a heart attack when I read 'Season 5' B: I kind of like the NX-01 without a secondary hull. Thats what was unique about it. C: Here is a early drawing of the NX with a secondary hull <Clicky>
I'm going to agree with the Guardian Bob on point b. Although I'm curious to see what they'd come up with. Should effectively retcon TATV for all the haters, too.
I'm very excited to see this. I imagine such a refit occurring somewhere between Seasons 6-10! Maybe this will figure into future books in the Romulan War series and appear on the final cover. Ever since ENT went off the air, I've often thought how cool it would've been if it had undergone a transformation like that of the original into the movie-era. On a side note, Margaret Clark's involved with this? Glad to see that being "let go" hasn't prevented her from returning to work at Pocket Books. One word... indispensable.
This pic has been around for a while now (it's from John Eaves' blog IIRC). The design itself is nice, but it looks like an updated Constitution (slicker, more futuristic lines). It looks far to advanced to be able to pass for a 1701 predecessor.
If you mean that the NX-01 is unique for not having a secondary hull, then not really. We had the Miranda, Nebula, Defiant, and Akira long before the NX-01. The upside-down Akira with different nacelles doesn't?
Well, its the first real main focus star ship without a secondary hull. The Defiant is in a totally different design of ships. Sure, we've seen ships without secondary hulls before, but not to the extent of this ship. Don't bring that up and try and start an argument. If you think it looks like the Akira, then so what and move on.
I can't believe people are still bringing this up... YES, the NX-01 really does look like an upside-down Akira, and NO, no one really gives a fu***...
Yep. I couldn't give a fuck about that either... flying or otherwise. I don't really care for those early John Eaves sketches, not for the 22nd Century at any rate. They probably suit the Abramsverse or even a time prior to Picard. The NX-01 works for me but I'm curious to see the same look with a secondary hull. Hopefully Drolet and Drexler won't stray too far from what I've grown to like about the ship. All that hull plating and how its more industrial and darker in appearance, than any of the next century's vessels.
I know Doug Drexler always wanted a more TOS-like, porcelain hull for the NX-01, but during the final wrangling between production, art department, and VFX, VFX demanded lots and lots of aztec'ing to make the hull more visually interesting. And won. Which is too bad. I think the original concept looked much better.
^ Love that image. Enterprise as airfix artwork. It's got the cloud background and the look of P-38. That's the direction they were heading with Columbia. A lighter sheen to the hull, which is fair enough. My issues are with the NX-01 suddenly looking clean cut... sleek... visually uncomplicated... like the Constitution class, which is supposed to be a century more advanced. That's my fear when I hear the word porcelin being bandied about... Still facinated with the concept of these ships evolving though. That would make them truly experimental and fluid in design, rather than a fixed specific class... although Enterprise is a fitting enough title.
You're all saying "I don't care, shut up!" but I'm not complaining. Just pointing out that it's pretty anachronistic already if that's what a concern is. That's all.
That concept drawing is absolute hottness. Starship porn. Everything the NX-01 should have been from the get-go. I LOVE the original design (I'm a HUGE Akira fan) but this... this is just... yes. Win. I can't wait for the new calendar.
