But the fact that a man who had never trained with that weapon was able to beat a man who had trained with it for his entire life was way beyond the suspension of disbelief IMO.
I would have liked it better if Shran had -let- Archer do that to him. Knowing that Archer wouldn't kill him, but still satisfying his honor.
Yeah, that could have been cool. Wouldn't have made Archer look very heroic, though. And Season Four was pretty much the season of Super-Archer.
I've always liked Archer. I thought Bakula was great in the role. Admittedly, Trip was my favorite character, but Archer was a close second. He had this earnest quality to him that was great for the early seasons, but when the story called for him to be dark (like in S3 and S4 especially), I always thought Bakula delivered. I'm very grateful we got someone of his caliber to be a Star Trek captain.
Archer biting off Shran's little blue appendage might have had some unintended interpretations, I suppose.
The same thing happens to Jeffrey Combs in the film From Beyond as well, only then it's Barbara Crampton doing the biting. It still plays as over the top crazy.
I do not hate Captain Archer, or ENTERPRISE. I don't even hate its hateful theme song. I do hate Archer's long-winded, poorly-delivered speeches. What's worse, it's so obvious, by the sweeping camera movements and coverage that they are meant to be so awe-inspiring and impactfull. What they come off as is coming from a half-assed motivational speaker. Even the cast is evidently bored with them ... but hey, speeches don't require special effects and they do eat up time! Good for the show ... bad for us.
Perhaps not, teacake. Perhaps not ... But I've never seen any animal give birth - gazzelle ... or otherwise. A dividing ameoba, or a hydra budding off, maybe, is about all I can handle. Some things are best left a mystery in the Wild Kingdom. Although, I do not see what that has to do with Archer, outside of his kissing Porthos far too often for my comfort levels.
Luckily it's the first one here. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO94_pVaKlI[/yt] You know I love Enterprise but the first time I heard this I fell off the couch I was laughing so hard.
The topper to the Gazelle Speech is Soval in a sense saying "What the fuck does that have to do with what we're talking about?!"
^ I love how his speech seems to assume that his audience needs to be educated that humans don't leap from the womb fully functional. Has he never seen a Vulcan baby?!
