The point was for longtime fans to go "A-ha".

    Uummm...

Have we already forgotten the 'several' references to TWoK that have already appeared in some of the trailers...?
    (and other places)

    Hand-to-hand against the glass...
    Dr. Carol Marcus...
    and
Apparently, some kind of Fancy Torpedo (Genesis???)...
(I'm sure there's a few more that I've forgotten at the moment)

...and all this before the end credits even begin.

Kinda silly to be arguing that past obscure references shouldn't be included at this point, I think.

Actually, the reallly longtime fans said "Why is Delta Vega next to Vulcan?"

Clearly, some really long-time Trek fans—who knows how many, but including fans of over forty years, such as me—really don't care if a planet named Delta Vega exists near or next to Vulcan in the nu-timeline.

It was a nice visual and worked well in the movie.

And in the Prime timeline too - an Enterprise-E security officer mentioned spending time there in the novel Typhon Pact: Paths of Disharmony. Similarly, the Delta Vega at the edge of the galaxy is in the alternate reality also - Kirk and Spock stranded Gary Mitchell there in the comic adaptaion of "Where No Man Has Gone Before", as they did in The Original Series.

Not to forget new actors playing the same characters, most likely.

That's fine, too. Trust me, my head's not exploding. ;) Given the obsessiveness of Trek fans, dealing with the "issue" non-canonically, i.e. in the Lit, was a foregone conclusion.

We've got Cities all over the world that share names...

Why can't a few planets do so as well?

The computer was largely unhelpful and didn't tell Kirk which Delta Vega he is on. I mean, come on, what would you do if your GPS told you you're in London without telling you which London? What if you were in the wrong continent? Or planet? Or galaxy? Or universe? Or multiverse?

Doubtful, they tend to sign people to at least three picture deals for this sort of thing.

    So Abrams can be wrong.

If you're in Kentucky and you think you might be in England, you have bigger problems than a faulty GPS.

I've got family that lives in a rural part of Kentucky...
I'm not so sure a few of their neighbors even know what a GPS is...

I don't think that Space Seed is reference here. The events in the new timeline could mean that Khan was discovered many years ago, maybe by April himself and recruited instead of fighting him. So Khan could be OK and explained OK, as his ship was out there in space all the time, not appeared just when Space Seed happen. I really think that if Harisson is Khan than he was found by April ...

Ditto. As far as I'm concerned, "Delta Vega" is to outer space what "Springfield" is to virtually every state in the union.

Fan since 1972 (syndication baby). But I must be a bad fan, because "Delta Vega" from WNMHGB didn't even dawn on me at the time. Shame on me for not being pedantic.
