Happy Kelvin Day

On Kelvin Day every year, we should all adopt that as an avatar. The Robau demands it.

 

But there has been a "transmedia" approach like this with AbramsTrek, in the form of the IDW comic books.

The comic "Star Trek: Countdown" was released over the course of four months before ST09 was released in theaters. "Countdown" is a direct lead-in/prequel to the movie, and the story was created by Orci and Kurtzman.

It depicted the events leading up to the destruction of Romulus in the 24th century, involving the Enterprise-E, Spock, and Nero and the Narada. It ended with Spock and Nero getting pulled into the black hole.

Similarly, IDW released "Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness" as a prequel to ST:ID in the months before the movie was released. Orci was involved in the story on this one too.

And IDW has continued to publish stories set in the Abrams-verse. IMO, the Abrams Trek universe lends itself very well to the visually-focused medium of comic books.

^^I'm aware of all that. In that post I was specifically referring to the lack of novels. Particularly in this case, Kelvin novels. EG, back in 2009 we had Countdown serving as a prequel comic to provide Nero's 24th century backstory, meanwhile they could also have done a novel set on the Kelvin perhaps the mission they were on before getting pulled to check out the "lightning storm in space."

 

I know the Kelvin, with Robau and Kirk Sr. are featured in a story about Keesner's origins.

That said, additional material would be wonderful

 

Kelvin scenes are still my favorite of either movie.

 

This is eleven kinds of awesome.

It seems to be a legal/copywrite issue preventing novels from featuring concepts from the Abramsverse. A few references have snuck in, but it seems they slipped in under the radar.

A big shame and missed oppertunity.

 

Yeah, I'm aware of those woes. Just talking what I'd like in a perfect world.

Why is not one asking the big question-will Captain Robau show up in the next film?

Ok, seriously, it could be the QT's film. It could be Prime Robau out and about in the galaxy exploring. Come on! So many possibilities!

 

If Star Trek 4 is bringing back George Kirk, an appearance by the USS Kelvin and The Robau are inevitable - whether it's wibbly wobbly time travel or even just a Letty-didn't-die flashback.

How did I not realise this until just now. Holy shitballs!

 

Honestly, I exist under the belief that Robau being in the movie is so obvious it's pointless to ask.
