I know that Nimoy is not in STID, but I'd like to hear some mention about a certain "Selek" who is helping the Vulcan's to rebuild.
AICN reported a few monthc ago that Nimoy was in the film, wearing "long and stately robes" A lot of that report has been seemingly debunked (i.e. Khan), but reports from people who saw the second trailer describe people zipping around in spacesuits, rather like the "deep space smackdown" between Kirk and Cumberbatch described in AICN's report. So you never know...
I don't think it's a good idea for Nimoy to be in this film. He already "passed the torch" in the previous movie and I think it, him being in this one, would diminish that.
Besides, since the plan is to do a trilogy, I say leave Nimoy out of this one, thereby making his cameo in Trek XIII all the more powerful.
Agreed. The torch has been passed. Let's stop trying to cram original characters in here just for the sake of cramming them in. At some point it could overshadow the new actors playing those characters.
It has indeed, but does that mean that prime Spock can never ever appear again in nuTrek? I really hope to see him again!
Remember the speculation (based on visuals in the teaser) about a Memorial Service for someone, that might be reason enough for a quick cameo from him. The mentioned robes would seem to validate the possibility.
NO to TOS, TNG/DS9/VOY, or ENT cameos, walk-ons, guest shots, whatever. We love old Trek but it's done. It's time to move on.
You know what would be great? If at the end Riker says "End program." That would make everyone happy.
Perhaps Quinto can have long conversations with a Spock doll, or an animated dream sequence so Nimoy can phone it in from his living room.
A Nimoy cameo could be excellent. Imagine it - Earth in utter shambles after Harrison's done his damage. Spock goes to his elder self, finds him utterly shocked. "This is like nothing I ever faced..." Most impactful 2-minute cameo ever. Hammers home the alternate reality/destiny schmestiny thing. And whatever rattles Old Spock must be bad news for our crew.
I'm a big fan of show, don't tell and a ham-fisted cameo like the one you describe at that point would detract more than it would add.
It would not make me happy!! I love JJ's take on Star Trek! As much as I love Nimoy I do think the tourch has been passed.
