That's why you put in the bathrooms but don't model the rooms and leave a closed door. :D

If you think you're feeling pressure, just imagine what the poor crew is going through without any bathrooms on that ship.

The waiting lounge proved to be more cramped than I had originally thought, and I'm anxious to move on to a new area, so I'm leaving the transporter room as is for now. Here is a video so you can see it in real-time action:

Pardon my French, but... god-DAMN. :luvlove:

This NEEDS to happen: An Archer-style NAS (New Animated Series) using these very 'sets.' Take TAS character designs, stick 'em in the TMP/TWOK outfits, adjust for age, get the Phase II or Star Trek Continues cast to provide voices, and GO. Your work here is THAT good, Donny.

Man, the design & lighting of the movie transporter room are downright creepy. I would not want to spend a lot of time in that room.

Donmy, have you done/are planning to do the airlock staging area where Spock gets the spacesuit? Of all the sets Shane Johnson drew that's the one he got completely wrong.

I spent the rest of the evening blocking out the basic shapes of the sickbay complex. Luckily, my earlier work on the corridors proved accurate, as the complex lines up almost perfectly with the necessary doorways of the corridor.

Shane Johnson's plans prove to be pretty accurate to the Stage 9 set plans, so I'm using them as a guide.

I, however, want to expand the sickbay complex by adding a second intensive care ward, making the complex more or less symmetrical. Here is the general idea:

That looks like a much more pleasing layout! I assume the sterile corridor will lead to an operating room or somesuch?

The symmetry is pleasing to the eye, but I'm wondering what's causing those curved walls in the intensive care facility. I think the original intent of the set designer may have been to reflect the shape of the primary hull (which would be odd since it doesn't correspond to the other curves on the set), but there has to be a reason those walls are curved like that, otherwise it would make more sense for them to be straight.

If they curved the other direction, it would make sense that there was some kind of pressure vessel or tank that sickbay wrapped around. Might the curve be due to water storage?

The curve of the Sickbay ward walls has been an oddity with the set design since TOS and continues into TNG and even VOY without explanation (since none of them correspond to the shape of the respective ships).

I'm guessing that Starfleet MDs just like having their patients arranged in a pleasing curve and the construction engineers follow there directions!

While I agree with the additional intensive care unit, there should be an operating room in there somewhere.

I always assumed the examination room would be doubled as the OR, as it did in the original series.

Also, I don't think Shane Johnson is right about the room he labels as the Lab. The set plans text of "DR. OFFICE" extends into that area, which I suspect is really just the foyer of the office and no lab set had been built or planned.

I thought the Chief Surgeon's Lab was where Dr. McCoy was trying to save Scotty's nephew. Or was that the Examination Room, and does it match up to Shane's drawings?

McCoy is operating on Peter Preston in the Exam Room. As with most of the sets, there were cosmetic tweaks:

    TMP
    wall with display screen
    wall with storage cabinets

    TWOK
storage cabinets replaced with colored panels
display screen replaced with backlit piece of translucent glass/plastic

They also added a medical monitor to one wall; it looks like the bed monitor depicted in Lee Cole's Phase II "Enterprise Flight Manual", and also puts in an appearance on the Botany Bay set.

Thanks! We're working on a small Sickbay set for our upcoming TRISTAN and DEIMOS fan film series, and this will help tremendously!
