Fans upset over the news that J.J. Abrams will be directing the next Star Wars movie, worry not, he’s not leaving Star Trek behind. Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore reassured fans that Abrams would still be involved with Trek and with Mission: Impossible. “J.J. will continue to develop projects for us including a new Mission: [...]

Just hope he takes a reduced role or something. Last thing Trek needs is for the movie series be put on ice for several years after these movies have revived interest in the franchise.

It's official: J.J has ascended to the realm of Nerd God. All he has to do is resurrect Firefly and the trifecta will be complete.

In ten years time that will be the next Abrams reboot.

He will not stop until every planet, every timeline, every universe has been rebooted into glory.

That is the first "lens flare" joke I've seen in three years that isn't fucking stupid. Goes double for the ones that pop up on TrekBBS.

Episode 7 is not a reboot.

That's why it's called Episode SEVEN.

In other news, Abrams is planning to reboot himself as Patrick Dempsey.

I'm really starting to worry how prophetic that episode of Futurama was...

JJ Abrams might think he's the chosen one but he won't be bringing balance to the franchise(s).

    Hmmm. Something beginning is.

Looks like he is going to work on everything but a Cloverfield sequal. I guess that one is dead.

O'well. I'm sure the world can do without a Cloverfield sequel.

However directing Trek and Wars could, if he plays his cards right, propel him into position of greatest director of all time, geekdom wise and I hope he pulls that off. He's a fool if he screws this opportunity up.

On announcement that he was doing the new Star Wars, I immediately assumed he'd move over to that as a director, but would continue on as a producer/consultant on Star Trek 3. After all, Star Trek might still be Paramount's intelectual property, but Bad Robot are the company who are actually making them (essentially 'outside contractors', if you will). So there isn't really any true conflict from Bad Robot being involved with both Paramount and Disney at the same time, is there?

Like Speilberg before him, Abrams has already shown he can whip up multiple movies on extremely tight schedules. Perhaps he might even still be able to helm both?

    (Unlikely, I know.)

Don't be too "unlikely" about it. That's what I meant, if he can stay sober & focused and pump out a hit for both ST3, (I believe ST2 will be a hit) and SW7 then his Legacy of Greatness will be sealed. He could make Spielberg a laughing stock IF he can pull both off.

I'd rather that he poured all his energy into Star Wars. He's got his work cut out for him that franchise.

Would you agree his workload could be diminished depending on the strength of the SW7 script?
