So, does one have to be a painter to be a part of this group?

I'm actually only recently getting back into doing some art. I've been content to play with photoshop for a long time (and having babies kinda gets in the way of busting out all the pencil and paper on a regular basis).

My preferred genre of art is in cartoon/comic... I also like illustrating (or at least the idea of it). I don't ever see myself getting into painting, though I'd like to become a better sketch artist. And my skill level is major n00b... but here is some of my work (very rough):

    (older) Self-portrait:

Some of my attempts at comic style:

This is inspired by a friend's virtual series, Star Trek: Frontiers. This is Captain Kyle Sito who is a Spiran (made up race by my friend):

And I toyed once with doing a comic strip based on Star Trek: Frontiers. This is Commander Bruce Andrade:

Currently I'm doing a "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" workshop. But I really need to get some classes.

^^ Those are great. I have the hardest time with faces.

Okay, gotcha. I see it now.

    TSQ/C, that's a beautiful painting. I'm very impressed.

Not bad. That robot looks familiar somehow. And the second character has a bit of a Mike Mignola vibe.

The first robot is quite iconic and featured in the animated Japanese movie, Laputa: Castle in the Sky.

^I love the way you played with light and shadow in that picture.

    Thank you.

And here's some corridor drawings that have a video-game concept art/action comic book vibe:

Heh. I like Slender Man. Very creepy.

And that painting really draws me in. I'd like to walk along that path.

My Slender Man has gone down well, but what do you think of my Zombie Santa and the MGS-style corridors?

    Re: The New Artist's Thread

Although I can see the same styling in all of them, I just find that the Slender Man is really exuding something that the others lack. It's much more dynamic.

Though I will say that I love the dichotomy of the bright colors and the darker subject of zombie Santa.

    Re: The New Artist's Thread

I liked the others, too, I just liked Slender Man the best. In the first picture, I especially like the bearded figure, and in the second I like that the perspective is not from eye level, which is something else I struggle with in my own art. And Zombie Santa is funny; I agree with Ruaidhri that the color scheme is striking.
