I DVR'd all the episodes. Weeks later I managed to get through them. The Wizard of Oz references were written in like product placements. They were logical enough but really had nothing to do with the story. And that story was rather bloated, in my opinion. In other words, why did this get an Emmy nomination for best miniseries? If you think it's because it deserved it, vote "Yes" in the poll. If not, vote no---and offer an hypothesis.
It should get an emmy but not for best miniseries-I'm thinking for the visuals, maybe. It looked beautiful. I think the story was going for a steampunk re-telling of Wizard and just missed the mark.
I loved the journey and the history of the O.Z. and most of the characters. The ending, unfortunately, was a bit halfhearted. I think it deserves a nomination, but there's no way it'll beat John Adams (which I still need to watch).
I figure the category is just weak. John Adams is in another universe from its fellow nominees. Cranford was too crinoline cutsey-poo for me to stomach and I had to turn it off. Tin Man and Andromeda Strain are more deserving of Razzies. (Tin Man had a good cast, tho.)
Well, as someone who doesn't watch much in the name of live TV (and avoided this, after the piss poor reviews), the only thing I can ask is...what was the competition? After all, the Emmy Awards have to nominate something for this category.
I enjoyed the mini-series, but certainly agree it could have been trimmed down by an hour or so to keep the pace up. I enjoyed the take on Oz and was glad it wasn't a "reimagining". It looked great and some of the cast did a bang up job in their roles.
Could've been worse. I kept expectign it to end with a mothership arriving and informing us that Oz was really a failed alien colony.
Come, come, now. ANYTHING is watchable. Sometimes its just a question of balancing the correct quantities of drugs and alcohol with the right amount of sleep deprivation.
I should have watched Tin Man while listening to Dark Side of the Moon... damn... another missed opportunity.
I figure it got a nomination becuase they needed another mini to round out the category. ...Basically what Temis said.
