Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner in The Killers (1946)--a quintessential film noir: I like this photo because it too contains so many noir elements: high-contrast lighting, shadows, the anti-hero, and the femme fatale whose machinations doom them both.
You know--ordinarily, I would have groaned and rolled my eyes at this news. A remake of Mildred Pierce? With Kate Winslet in the Joan Crawford role? Puh-leeze. But--a five-hour HBO miniseries? This I have to see.
Well, if you go by their RL ages, yes. But Angela Lansbury was only three years older than Laurence Harvey when she played his mother in The Manchurian Candidate. And nobody ever found that strange. So obviously, a lot will depend on the quality of her performance.
