Yes, of course! Deliciously so! ETA: In the new movie Khan's blood brought you back to life. In 'Space Seed', it was a dessert wine.
I guess you missed INTERSTAT and the like? Fandom hasn't changed a bit. The anti-Wrath of Khan/Harve Bennett comments sound very familiar indeed... http://fanlore.org/wiki/Interstat
Remember when Bennett floated the idea of a Starfleet Academy Trek movie for Star Trek VI? Fandom was already angry enough about TFF. I thought they were going to burn him at the stake for suggesting 'other actors' play Kirk and Spock.
I have that issue buried somewhere in collection. Yeah, that was a bad time for Trek. Harve did some good stuff for Trek that is heralded now, but he took a lot of shit for at the time. The military look of TWOK and the rest of the movies, the introduction of David, the death of Spock, the destruction of Enterprise, the death of David, the resurrection of Spock, whales, Scotty's weight, Chekov's accent, The Final Frontier - The poor guy couldn't win.
Ok, so, to sum up the last 35 years of Trekkie wars: TMP is shit because its not like TOS TWOK is shit because its not like TMP TNG is shit because its not like TOS VOY Is just shit DSN always escapes fan wars ENT is shit because its created by B&B and dumbed down shit The reboot is shit because its nothing like Star Trek (RIP) Is anything not shit? I can't remember? Without the constant Trekkie civil war we would have nothing!
Nah, it's pretty much everything. Oh, and... Go post about that in QS&F. I'm sure Antony will be thrilled to hear it.
DS9 got railed for making the Captain a Religious figure, a small bit for making the Captain black (see: Janeway got hell for being a woman cause TOS said women can never be Captains), the Dominion War, being set on a space station, not downplaying the religion angle.
Wait you forgot one more! Now, TOS itself sucks too because it's not TNG! Seriously this opinion is getting thrown around these days, it's ridiculous.
Not only that, it's the sayings of yet another obdurate moronic 'fan' trapped in the past unable to progress. No wonder Orci's been angry; I'd be like that, too, with the bunch of obdurates infesting Trek Movie and most sites.
TOS Remastered has ruined Star Trek forever! Or Franz Joseph Superior, Okuda doesn't know what he's talking about. On and on and on and on and on...
* TOS is a ripoff of Forbidden Planet * Gene is a womanizer that cheat writers every chance he got * The Voyage Home is preachy Greenpeace propaganda * The crew should have been transferred to the Excelsior, the Enterprise-A is a cheap gimmick * Robin Curtis is the only true Savvik * Kristy Alley is the only true Savvik People act like STID is the first film to "ruin the franchise forever!" when reality shows that anything and everything ever done "ruins it forever" for someone.
I'd like to take us all on a time warp to 1986. "I dislike what Bennett has done to Star Trek, as well. The tone of the TV series was summed up by Shatner's opening credits narration: "To seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before." None of the three ST movies have explored this theme. Instead, we see Starfleet as a purely military body. It disappoints me greatly. Bennett seems to actively dislike the Star Trek the rest of us love. Why else kill Spock? Why else blow up the Enterprise? Sigh." - Robert J. Sawyer - net.StarTrek usergroup 1/28/1986 So yeah... people have been saying the same shit for going on 30 years now https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/net.startrek/PgLU07TOoh8
Ah, but this time it's going to work. Whoever complains the loudest is going to get what he wants. You know, because we have the internet now and Hollywood has no idea about sockpuppeting.
DS9 takes its lumps on these boards, but I gotta agree with the above. I liked it for that reason, too. I think the main characters were stronger top to bottom than in other Trek shows, too. It was also more or less the only true ensemble cast in Trek, too. "Luuuuuuuuucy!" "Waaaaaaaah!"
