Um...this doesn't sound remotely like skynet. It's just something that does calculations. Skynet was in charge of defense.

This is what's known as an expert system. Or logic engine. It's no more SKYNET than WebMD.

The only difference is that---supposedly---it's able to expand its knowledge base via web content.

Wouldn't be hilarious if Skynet had been WebMD? It'll diagnose your foot fungus and then attempt to wipe out your entire species.

Oh, but wait, my unsuspecting friends. Doomsday always starts with a wimper. One day it's a pimple on your butt and the next thing you know, there's a 3 foot mass growing out of your ass.

I'm not buying into the hype. So far Wolfram Alpha hasn't been able to answer any of the more than two dozen simple queries I've typed in. Not a single one. So far, for me at least, it's useless for research.

Completely and totally useless. First it couldn't divide the number of people killed by bears in 1956 by the number of Nazis executed by the Allies since WWII. Then it couldn't tell me how many male to female transexuals currently have profiles on Match.com. Then it couldn't even tell me how to dispose of a body.

It should have at least suggested a wood chipper, that's always good, but it didn't even understand the question.

See, I always guessed Google was a Bond-style organization of villains.

i thought it was mandatory for all self-aware-possibility-of-society-collapsing AI's to have a Dead Body Disposal subroutine...I mean - what will it do when it has to dispose of the fetid remains of 80% of humanity in a few years' time?

    Bloody amateurs.

The thing to worry about is Google and Wiki getting together. Then you have Skynet.
