Imagine for a moment you're in charge of the setlist for the next Rock Band/Guitar Hero or similar game. You've got a big budget to sign up tracks you think would suit the game - i.e. music you like but is also fun for someone to sing, play the guitar (lead and bass) and the drums.

The game has got to sell so you've also got to have a good mix of styles and periods too. It's okay to list songs that have been used in previous games.

    My ideas:

    "Heroes" - David Bowie
    "Bat Country" - Avenged Sevenfold
"Live and Let Die" - Guns and Roses
"Fear of the Dark" - Iron Maiden
    "Devoted" - Lacuna Coil
    "Disposable Teens" - Marilyn Manson
    "Frantic" - Metallica
    "Cumin' Atcha Live" - Tesla
"The Howling" - Within Temptation (yes, Omnius, I had to get one in there :p )
"Your Time Has Come" - Audioslave
    "City of Delusion" - Muse
"I'm Not Okay" - My Chemical Romance
    "The Bitter End" - Placebo
    "Clones" - Ash
"Have You Ever Seen the Rain" - Creedence Clearwater Revival (for the Stargate fans)
"I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock of Seagulls
"Who Invited You ?" - The Donnas
    "Breakout" - Foo Fighters
    "Mr. Brightside" - The Killers
"Faint" - Linkin Park (might be hard)
"Master Passion Greed" - Nightwish (again, one for the harder difficulty levels)
"Renegades of Funk" - Rage Against the Machine
    "Pin" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"Just a Day" - Feeder (given the video, I'm sure a few other people would like this one too)

Obviously, anyone's list is going to be skewed towards their own tastes. :)

Metallica - "Master of Puppets", "Disposable Heroes", "Fuel", "No Leaf Clover"

    Bon Jovi - "Bad Medicine"
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Freebird" (yeah... I know...), "Saturday Night Special"
Creedance Clearwater Revival - "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?", "Heard it Through the Grapevine", "Travelin' Band"
    Ozzy Osbourne - "Crazy Train"
Led Zeppelin - "Good Times, Bad Times", "Achilles Last Stand"
Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'" (I mean, really, why ISN'T this already???), "Wheel in the Sky"
Megadeth - "Holy Wars... The Punishment is Due", "Countdown to Extinction"
Rolling Stones - "Street Fightin' Man", "Sympathy for the Devil"

Ooh, good choice! Sounds very climactic, like a final tier song.

Nice! I've wanted to play Achilles in Guitar Hero since the very first game. It's a lot more hard than Stairway to Heaven (too obvious) and belongs as a final tier track.

Seriously! I generally play on hard or expert, but I know that's one of the tracks that would just be ridiculous... but awesome. :)

With the emphasis on a complete band, I'm surprised they haven't had a Rancid song (playing Matt Freeman on bass would be a lot of fun). It would probably be something like Time Bomb or Ruby Soho, but Maxwell Murder would be a ton of fun (although really hard to sing).
