I mean, seriously? Commander John Harrison gives a vocal command for the ship to take him to Starfleet Headquarters. "Confirmed?" the ship asks. "Confirmed," Harrison replies, and then the ship promptly crushes Alcatraz before demolishing half of San Francisco. Harrison didn't say "Set a collision course for Starfleet Headquarters," he said, "Destination: Starfleet Headquarters."

Good thing Admiral Marcus didn't set a course for New Vulcan, the damn ship would have crashed into it. I believe a formal inquiry should be held.

I jest, of course, but this is a serious oversight on the part of the Dreadnaught-class design team :p

Khan had cranked the voice command control lever past "mild suggestion", "regular command" and "urgent order" all the way to "take everything extremely literally"

I believe it's what the Enterprise computer was set on when Moriarty was created.

He then pushed the large black lever to "Ludicrous Speed"

It didn't take him where he wanted to go, it took him where he needed to go.

Their first mistake was when they uploaded the consciousness of Michael Scott (AKA Section 31 Agent Michael Scarn) into the navigation system of the Vengeance.

I do believe the computer advises Khan Harrison that its nav settings are unreliable due to heavy damage, or something along those lines.

COMPUTER: Engines compromised! Cannot guarantee destination! Confirm order?
    KHAN: Confirm!

But you're right...Khan did not order a collision course...unless the computer is very context sensitive. LOL!

Well, the beginning of the movie solidly confirms that big starships can soft-land on Class M planets, exactly where they want. So setting a certain city block as the destination would be perfectly valid as such...

Khan could be relying on the "soft-landing" part falling apart by the time the ship gets to SF HQ doorstep, or he could issue further orders when the camera follows the perils of our heroes. But really, what we do see is a soft landing by any standards, for something that massive falling all the way from the Moon. It's just not a very accurate soft landing.

As shown in the movie, the Vengeance was badly damaged with the nacelles smoking. I thought it was pretty clear that the Vengeance was trying to fly in a straight line per Khan's orders, but the failing engines caused it to sink down through the air.

I just realized a year later (lord, I feel so behind) that the movie is bookended by gigantic starships leaving one heck of an impression on a planet's population. Of course, one departed and one, um, landed.

After crashing and Khan jumps out, I'd like to think that that the Vengeance computer said, "You have arrived at your destination."

They really did miss a trick not having a 'we brake for nobody' sticker on the VENGEANCE hull.

Or Sean Connery as the voice of the computer, informing HarriKhan as they hit town, "welcome to The Rock."

Computer: "You just had an accident."

Khan: "I know I had an accident!"

By the way, the Vengeance computer voice was Bill Hader, of Saturday Night Live fame.

Wow, that is actually pretty cool. I didn't know that he's also a producer and writer on South Park, and the voice of Kyle's brother Ike (among others).

I just had a vision of Cumberbatch saying the line (which, in T5E, was ad-libbed by Bruce Willis): "I only speak two languages, English and bad English."

The computer even says it can't guarentee it can make it to the destination, and if he wants to continue, the ship pushes it's battered body to the limit and crashes just short of it taking out several city blocks trying.

I mean give her a break, if I gutted you with a knife, kicked your sharpely in both shins then ordered you to walk to a shop 3 miles away for a donut, you wouldn't fair so well either.

Huh. I didn't know that either. Bill Hader is one of my fave SNL alumni and my respect for the Vengeance went up a whole helluva lot :)

Well, that was graphic, and too detailed.

    Have you done this before?
