One thing about "Operation: Annihilate!" that always bothered me. When Spock is hit with the blinding light. Why doesn't he immediately cover his eyes? (I know it's contrary to the script) I'd bet if you ran a hundred people off the street through that thing, that they'd all put up their hands to shield their eyes.

Tonight's episode on TV: (unfortunately) "Spock's Brain"
It's only redemption was McCoy's joke near the end about reconnecting Spock's mouth.

Recently did a full rewatch of DS9. Don't have any TNG or Voyager aside from the "Fan Favorites" box sets, so, yesterday I watched:

    The Inner Light - TNG
    Paralells - TNG
    Before and After - Voyager

"Errand of Mercy" and "For the World Is Hollow, and I Have Touched the Sky". [The latter one could be a Jimi Hendrix song title, I think.] (lol)

Just watched VOY's Real Life. Fell asleep before the end which is exactly what happened the last two times I watched it. I think I've only seen the ending once! Not because it is dull, it's just always too late.

Its probably best to skip the end of "Real Life" before it turns into unrealistic, manipulative horseshit.

Love it! Kor is superb and the Organians are very endearing.

DS9 "Second Skin" and "The Abandoned"

What Kira goes through in Second Skin seemed a little derivative of what happend to Troi in "The Face of the Enemy", but SS is a powerful episode, actually stronger than the TNG episode.

"The Abandoned" is also quite good. The more we learn about the Jem'Hadar the less we want to meet them.

"Plato's Stepchildren." The humiliate-the-crew scenes go on too long, but Michael Dunn as Alexander gives the episode some heart.

I find it much stronger because beneath the surface, there's very little similar between the two episodes.

Last episode I watched was "Barge of the Dead"...my 2nd favorite Trek episode.

    True, but it is derivative.

I shudder to consider what your favorite is. "Shades of Grey"?

Jammer gave "Barge of the Dead" a full 4 stars out of 4, I'm pretty confident I have good taste :bolian:
And you don't need to shudder, you can check out my top 30 favorite trek episodes video in my signature.

Also, I don't think "Second Skin" is derivative of "Face of the Enemy" at all. I was on tenterhooks for most of "Second Skin" wondering whether Kira really was a Cardassian end enjoying Kira's mental acrobatics trying to get her head around it all......nothing like that was on display in "Face of the Enemy".

So what? Jammer is but one person. If he liked it, that's great, but it doesn't necessarily follow that because he did, the episode is any better or worse than someone else might feel.

    No thanks. :)

Apart from the MacGuffin gimmick of having a central, female character whisked away to an alien culture and being surgically altered in order to complete a mission for external parties, you are right about this. There's very little similarity between the two episodes, thematically or contextually, outside of the aforementioned gimmick.

Oh my god, so are you saying that Jammer's review isn't the final word on Trek!??!?
Uh yeah I know genius. I was just pointing out that I'm not the only one who thinks its a fantastic episode, a pretty well respected Trek reviewer does too.
