Rev is also available on PS3 and DS, the DS one's supposed to be just as good as the console versions as well. EDIT: Wanted to add that I think Rev is also the most "Noob friendly", and has the most personality.
I played Civilization back in 1999 or early 2000s (though I forget which version). I was BORED to tears. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, like a cinematic scene or a mini-movie for every time I had a momentous achievement. Guess I set my expectations too high for this game, though I've read CIV: Revolution (XBOX 360 and PS3) is pretty good.
There's no big cinematic scenes for doing great things (although there are wonder movies depending on which game if you build one). The big thrill is accomplishing something you've planned out for a long time (conquering an enemy country, building a world wonder, etc). Those things take tons of planning so the addiction is that you keep wanting to play just one more turn to get it done.
^ Exactly. That's the fun of it! Fired up Civ4 again just yesterday -- Gods, what a great game. Cheers, -CM-
