SO, finished Singular Destiny. From the list I understand that it is not necessary to read all the books listed in the back of Singular Destiny. Also, that not all the Typhon Pact books are "compulsory".
Indeed. After Destiny and Singular Destiny, things branch off in four directions, and it's really up to you which you follow. Losing the Peace starts the TNG line. Over a Torrent Sea starts the Titan line. Full Circle starts the Voyager line. Rough Beasts of Empire starts the DS9 line. For Typhon Pact, it's not the kind of crossover where you have to read all of them to get the full story. It's more the kind of crossover where each one is a variation on a theme, each telling pretty much their own distinct story within the same general framework. Just follow whichever crew interests you the most. The first set of books are: * Zero Sum Game - DS9/Aventine, explores the Breen. * Seize the Fire - Titan, explores the Gorn. * Rough Beasts of Empire - two parallel stories for Spock and Sisko, explores the Romulans and the Tzenkethi. * Paths of Disharmony - TNG, mostly concerning the Andorians. **Note: Zero Sum Game was released first, but Rough Beasts is set earlier. The second set of books are: * The Struggle Within (e-book only) - TNG, explores the Kinshaya and the Talarians. * Plagues of Night - mostly DS9, big whopping crossover that involves everybody. * Raise the Dawn - part 2 of above. * Brinkmanship - TNG/Aventine crossover, explores Tzenkethi. Meanwhile, Titan and Voyager are kinda doing their own thing. .
Started Zero Sum Game. I knew that Kira retired - incidentally saw it somewhere. But where does it actually appear? Have I missed some massively-important book somewhere along the line?
I think Kirsten Beyer could write a great DS9 novel. Or James Swallow. DS9 could use the variety of authors the novels had 2000 - 2009.
Still, we have lvsxy808's "Season 10" to keep us happy. And I am working (with his permission and feedback) on novelising it. Volunteers for critique-reading will be accepted.
