    Save your money.

Stick a box in some corner of the ship.

    Call it M5.

No one cares about the computer. No one really cares about the ship except for hardcore trekkies.

For captain? Someone young, like Shatner was and Pine is.

    Save your money.

Just pile up a blanket in some corner of the ship.

    Call it a Horta.

    That's Captain Horta to you.

Well I would like me to play the next captain.
    How hard could it be?
"Beam me up", "Phasers on stun", "Priceline.com", pay me please! :D

Could you do the role cheaper than a piled-up blanket?

    No?

They might still give you "Constable Huxtable, ship security".

He was on Law & Order: SVU for a few episodes this year and he looked fairly non-stout then.

Ironically, on that show, he DID play a Captain:

temporary head of the SVU squad while Cragen is under investigation

If you're bringing Kirk back to TV, Michael Weatherly would be perfect as James T. Kirk. Talented actor, can do both comedy and drama. Has a resemblance to both Shatner and Pine, he'd be great.

I've thought about Daniel Dae Kim as a captain, maybe even Sulu if you wanted to go that way. I've also thought Phil Morris would excel in a role like that.

But one actor that came to mind recently was Kyle Chandler. I know some people don't want to go the white male route (personally, I don't think it matters, create a great role and have an open casting call, cast the best actor possible, don't limit your choices) but I think this man would make a great captain. If you count Early Edition and Super 8, he's done a little bit of genre work, but he's not known for it like some of the other choices are. Looking at his work on Friday Night Lights, he's great as a figure of authority but can also be relaxed and cool as well. He can say a lot of things without actually saying a word. And he's an Emmy winner, that doesn't hurt in publicity...

More experienced, that is. I agree. It would be great to see someone with acting skills and qualities similar to Stewart or Brooks. A captain should have admirable qualities. Chris Pine is an example of what a SF captain should not be. Pine is the worst Trek Captain ever. Definitely deserved the Golden Raspberry Award.

Agreed, Pine was woeful. He's more James Dean than James Kirk.

maybe the next star trek series should have someone like pine's version of kirk as a junior officer. a cocky little shit that does show talent and promise, but is badly in need of seasoning. someone the captain can take under his wing and mentor.

and if the captain is michael weatherly, occasionally slap the immature jerk up side his head.

    :)

A woman...someone a bit younger than Kate Mulgrew. Athletic, able, intelligent. I don't care if they're a "name" or not, though I have a feeling CBS will INSIST on a bigger name for the next series as the lead to hedge bets.

Failing that, a woman as first officer, same job description, abilities, etc as Riker.

    You could try present-day Shatner.

    Or Jabba the Hutt.

Assuming anyone could tell the difference.

Again with the Shatner is too fat complaints? The guy is 81 and in extremely good shape for that age. Respect for the elderly seems to be out of the window.
