Since I live under a 'I don't do TV' rock, I did not know that ENT even existed until it was cancelled and the few Trek fans around the office were in an uproar. One office mate gave me an overview of the premise which sounded interesting, but I was doing other things.

I saw it for the first time last month as an excuse to test Amazon downloads. Enterprise hooked me instantly. Still the dialog through the first 10 eposides at times seems discontinuous, contrived or incongrouous with events and some plots have seemed deja-vu-ish. Perhaps this is an artifact of TV's one-size-fits-all programming paradigm. I like the characters and the actors that play them. Finally, I see ENT as a reasonable forecast of the evolution of humanity should certain technologies actually become available. I tell my wife that with me as her coach our 5-year-old daughter has a good chance of inventing warp drive.

My relationship to Treks:
TOS: Loved the Sunday dinnertime reruns.
TNG: Bought a fancy new Sony XBR TV in time for the premier, saw about 1/3 of the eposides.
DS9: Saw about 30 episodes.
VOY: Saw 1 episode and went 'Huh?'
MOV: Seen all IV is the favorite.

I have enjoyed reading the reviews attached to the ENT episode guide.

 

My advice:
DS9: Watch them all.
VOY: Try more than one.

Hi y'all! I'm new here, but have been lurking around for like (gosh) years, I guess.
Loved Trek since the first time I saw TNG (I was like 5, didn't have any real clue what it was about back then, but seeing star ships flying around was enough for me at the time ).
Liked VOY (back in late 90'ies, that is), adored DS9, and loved everything about ENT since day one (even the theme song... ).
Getting over the cancellation thing was surprisingly easy for me at first (hated the hell out of TATV, still do), but those ENT relaunch novels got me re-hooked .

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to say that it is an honor to be a part of this forum and I just want to show my love of Star Trek. First off, I have to say that Enterprise is my favorite of all the series, and no I'm not a newcomer to Trek by any means. I've grown up watching it and I love watching all the series, but when Enterprise came out, it carried the magic of the OS with the special effects of today, and I was hooked instantly. Scott Bakula as Capt. Archer was an excellent choice, and Dr. Phlox is my fav. character. John Billingsley is an amazing actor who created such a lovable character. If I had went to school to become a doctor, he would be the one that I would model my character and personality after lol.

Hello to everybody! I have been reading the boards for a long time and just decided to jump into some discussions that I find interesting. I've been watching Trek all my life, watched TOS so many times I burned out so many VHS copies of episodes...

I very much enjoyed most of TNG (S2-conclusion,) very occasional DS9 and even less occasionally, Voyager. I ultimately found myself enjoying Enterprise the most out of the all the post TOS incarnations, by far. For some reason Enterprise "spoke" to me in a way that the other three did not. While UPN's dismal treatment of the show in prime-time made it difficult for someone such as myself with an evening job to know when and if I needed to set my VCR (no DVR yet for me) - when the show became available on DVD - I immediately purchased it and watched what I'd missed (about 60%.) I certainly fall into the camp that I wish the show had gotten 7 seasons - and squarely blame UPN's lack of promotion, constant shifting of schedule, general disdain for the subject matter, and the lack of network outlets (how can you expect #'s when your product isn't nationwide like it's competitors) to be the cause of the corrosive situation that led to the series cancellation. (Well - spice in the Rick Berman/Paramount issues as well - I think many of us agreed with Paramount wanting to oust the guy from the franchise - progressive, intelligent writing was disappearing way back in VOY )

My favorite characters: Capt. Archer (well, better stated, Scott Bakula as Archer - Archer had some quirks that at times put me off a little) and Trip. Wish A. Montgomery had some more to do! Glad they didn't stick with Jolene's original makeup thru the whole series. Enjoyed Dominic Keating. The rest were well suited for their roles and certainly didn't do a poor job by any means.

My quick take on what I see as Enterprise "biggies" - all just my new-to-the-board opinions, of course (please take with a grain of salt) - no offense intended to anyone - but I thought I would kinda let people know what I was about and where I stand regarding ENT.

- TATV was a terrible finale and I choose to believe that it was just an insignificant holo-tag and that the events contained (especially Trip's absolutely meaningless death and the inconsistencies surrounding it) are very much open to real non-holo interpretation.
- The speech at the end of Terra Prime is the real series finale for me.
- Alien Nazi's were an insult to an otherwise decently executed 3rd season/arc.
- (from another poster - cannot find original thread) - the Klingon homeworld 4 DAYS from earth???
- Who was future guy - we don't know b/c BB never thought it thru that far... nice.
- Would have LOVED to have had Jeffrey Combs join the main cast in Season 5.
- It seems that Enterprise (the show) is without a doubt the punching bag of the franchise. So many people take pleasure in denigrating it. I will be first in line to jump on the some flaws - some of the blatant canon violations were inexcusable and some of the writing (esp S1 and S2) was lackluster at best. BUT, it is hard for me to hear all the ENT-bashing when TNG took its time finding it's footing (and has it's own set of inconsistencies), DS9 had it's moments, and VOY, well, I felt was Ryan's Hope in space. Again - just my opinion.
- I have always felt bad for the ENT actors themselves who, I feel, did the absolute best with the material they were given, and because of franchise burn-out, stepped into their roles at a time that was becoming less and less Trek TV friendly, and therefore they bore the brunt of the 'abuse.'
- Yes, the nx-01 enterprise does look like an upside down Akira. They knew it, we know it. I would've liked a different ship, but, the design of federation/starfleet starships has become part of our 20th and 21st century pop culture consciousness. Everyone knows the nacelles and the saucer containing the bridge - and that includes people who's don't watch the franchise. I agree with the creators decision to retain those elements in order to remain true to that iconic status. NX is a prototype designation - and it was certainly leading up to the NCC-1700 Constitution class.
- My biggest grrr... :-) *** Enterprise the show was not a holoprogram. *** 97 episodes (again - I don't count TATV) were not played out on the Enterprise-D holodeck (or some other holodeck.) There is nothing said in TATV that implies ] anything other than the events depicted in that episode on the nx-01 are part of a supposedly accurate historical depiction of real life during the incident shown. The vehemence with which this is sometimes debated really seems a waste of breath. If someone doesn't like Enterprise - ok - but that is going a bit over the top and insulting to those of us who enjoy the program and those who spent so much time producing a quality product..

Sorry hopped into a discussion without seeing this introduce yourself thread. It's a neat idea and very welcoming.

Anyway, I've been about this forum these last few months but mostly over at the fanfiction forum reading and posting writing there to keep in the trek universe.

I like all the different series as I believe they all have something different to offer. Obviously each series had its strengths and weaknesses. Grew up with TNG looked back on TOS fondly and the movies of course. DS9 wigged me out to begin but then grew to love. Voyager too though it had many demerits was part of the trek universe and I liked it too and wondered how they would get home - just expected someone to die on the way [from regular cast that is].

Sadly ENT was sold short in not getting its full seven series but that a whole discussion matter here.

Anyway enjoy reading everyone's views it's good to be here and to keep the spirit going and remember this great series with fondness.

Belated Introduction from me

Sorry, I didn't get round to saying hello for a while, I just dived into the forum.

I'm just about to finish my first full run through of Enterprise, I was kind of sick of Trek when it first came out, and didn't give it much of a chance. I'm loving it now though, I am about to start season four tonight, hoping i enjoy it.

If you want my opinions on other Trek series of which I have seen pretty much every episode here goes.

TOS- Some very crazy epiosdes (Spock's brain) but over all great sci fi.
TNG- At times boring, at times brilliant, mostly good
DS9- Ok, got a bit boring at times, but had some great battle scenes
VGR- Erm, ok I hated voyager, especially seven of nine, but in fact that deserves a post of it's own
ENT- Was over trek during it's original run, rewatching now and LOVING it.

Favourite Ent Characters in order
1. Reed
2. T'pol
3. Phlox
4. Trip
5. Archer
6. Porthos
7. Shran (I'm sure he got more lines than the next two)
8. Hoshi
9. Mayweather

 

Hi all! *waves* I am a Star Trek newbie that is still working my way through the series. So far my fave is ENT tied with TNG (and that's only because is so far my all time favorite character). Out of the ENT characters I enjoyed Trip and T'Pol and their relationship the best. As far as recurring characters go there was never enough Shran to make me happy. I'm also a big fan of Vulcans, that's what makes TNG not my fave, the total lack of Vulcans for the most part.

 

Hi all. I'm not new to TrekBBS. I was part of it but then "dropped out" when it changed hands/revamped (gee that was quite sometime ago). I wandered back to see what Trek fans are saying about Enterprise because I decided to buy it last Christmas. I bought S1 on a tryout and then bought the rest.

I grew up on TOS and followed most of the spinoffs, bar DS9 <- mainly because I felt another space station was more intriguing and full of mysteries. And even now, I still have not watched DS9 except for a few eps, especially an ep dealing with Tribbles.

Enterprise was one I did not follow mainly because it didn't sit too well with me back then because it was prequel and there were some negative vibes about it on how it'll sync with TOS. But I decided to give it a chance and although I can see where the faults are, it's not as bad as I feared it would be. I like the Enterprise crew. They're an interesting lot, most notably those that have the most screentime. Archer, Trip, T'Pol, Phlox and ... Porthos. :P

Archer - I deemed him an idiot in S1 for his reckless, boyish, enthusiastic way of exploring strange new worlds. He's ft to be tied. But he eventually became ... respectable.

Trip - I deemed him a "son" of McCoy and Kirk. Passionate about certain things/ppl, idealistic and the ladies' man. He just couldn't keep his hands off. Of course, as an engineer, he has every excuse to check things over.

T'Pol - I deemed her the magnet ... for she charmed the socks off the guys mentioned above, despite their inclination to shove her out the airlock when she came onboard. Although her age was around 64 or so when she went onboard, I deemed her as a very young woman if I were to slice up Vulcan years in proportion to human years in maturity. In any case, it's the first time she associated/socialised with humans up close and personal. I'm not too overly surprised that she would have emotional problems and control.

Phlox - Dispenser of medicines and humour. I can't imagine what Dr McCoy would say if he ever saw the menagerie of his colleague. I don't know what McCoy would suggest to Kirk if he ever came down depressed and insomniac. Most likey "Here, have some Romulan ale". Unlikely to be "Go to Spock's quarters and let him work you over with ABC Pressure Points." I do believe Dr Phlox has to go back to school on Insomniac remedies.

Malcolm : Very reliable officer, stiff upper lip, wouldn't say boo to a ghost. Harbours a crush for T'Pol. That almost pretty much describes the rest of the crew onboard. Except that everyone knows his fav food is pineapples. Fruity he is not.

Hoshi : Screams like a girl when she saw hanging bodies ...wait a min, she is a girl. Very capable UT. Telepathic too, possibly. Interesting if true. That'd explain why she has such affinity with alien languages.

Mayweather : I just know he's the helmsman. He doesn't sword dance like Sulu. Just a young man who likes to helm starships, shuttles and slow on the take.
